The three...

Completely different team. We've got guys who can put the ball on the floor, are athletic and play towards the rim. In the past it was just a lot of standup shooters. The extreme reliance on it started to fade a bit last year when we were middle-of-the-road.

Going into the game were 287th in 3PA:FGA.

Overall, the 3 point shooting was good. But, it was obvious that Whitehead made some bad 3-point shot decisions - either bad looks, or shot when he should've drove to the basket. Easy thing to improve on- which I'm sure he will.

Once he starts to improve efficiency, he is going to be scary good. Even with his tendency to make some bad decisions, he was brilliant at generating offense and had some stunning assists.

We win by 20 on the road and you want to find a negative to complain about ? I hope we have more negative nights like we did today.

amen to that. alot of our better wins have been fool's gold the last few years. chuck it up and pray it goes in. we took a reasonable number tonight, got a few open ones, and knocked them down in rhythm for the most part.

defense travels when your offense isn't there on a given night.

Some posters, for whatever reasons try to find negatives even after a great performance by our players tonight and obviously great coaching by Willard. It's only one game. let's enjoy it tonight then, it's back to work and prepare for our next game.

This board is where diehard fans should be able to discuss the ins and outs of the team and the game they just watched. I only post when I'm excited about this team, and tonight I am excited about this team. But, instead of just cheerleading, we should discuss improving. I agree with everyone's comments that Sanogo and Desi are awesome; so are many of the players, including Whitehead. But, after watching the game, I think it's obvious that Whitehead's play has a lot of room for improvement.

i agree. But don't forget how Willard developed Jordan Theodore. It took JT 2 yrs to become a great PT after Gonzo left and Whitehead is a lot further along than JT.

Pet pieve - "a lot" is two words! As SHU improves academic standing as alumni can we please improve our grammar. Maybe too much wine after a nice win however this is a poor reflection upon the University if our alum are unable to write properly!

I understand your point. There is much room for improvement, but I think we are starting to trend up.
Carrington is shooting his three with a sweat stroke. Singh looks more and more relaxed in his overall
on court body language. Much better than his first handful of games. He is capable of replacing some of
Sina's 3 point shooting. Gordon has made a few lately and that's very important. Whitehead has a lot
on his plate and I believe once he gets more comfortable at the PG his outside shot will improve.

It was good to see us not depending on the three but make them now and then and keep the defense honest. They came at the most opportune time.

Credit Willard for adjusting his philosophy to favor the strengths of his personnel.

This team is growing with every game. If this group stays together, we're looking at a real good multiple year run, the likes of which we haven't seen around here in a very long time.

Watching this team gain mental and physical toughness, play defense and rebound, I can't help but thinking of poster garyshu71 who has been preaching for years on here that we need defense and rebounding in order to win. He's been absolutely right all along and it looks like we finally may have something.

That's the most astute comment on the board since the game ended.

The W is because of defense and rebounding. A 20 point road win despite 20 turnovers and 43% shooting from the field.

I can't even say anything negative about that performance. Everyone played well! IW just needs to keep evolving as a PG.

We had a lot of trouble recruiting players who could do the kinds of these this group is doing too. We swung and missed a lot and settled for projects or players who did one or two things very well, but not the versatility we see with this team.
