Time for Mara and Tisch to sell

When you factor in the fact that only about 15% of a teams revenue come from ticket sales with the balance coming primarily from tv and streaming deals owning a franchise is a cash cow and thus little incentive to sell .
I don't believe they have to sell or are considering anything like that.

I believe they should take the best football player available unless Ward is there. Playoffs seem unrealistic anytime soon. I think Mara will give the coach and GM an additional year if they can get to 7-10 or an 8-9 season, something like that. They get off to a 1-7 start and he might make a change right there. A big moment nay be if Sanders is there at 3? Will they take him if not sold on his talent.

They’re not going to sell ever. The only reason the Tisch family even got a piece was because of issues Wellington’s nephew had. Also part of that feud was the reason the NFL intervened with them in the 1970’s.

John Mara is simply a wishy-washy half-measure guy. It makes no sense to say you have faith in the process and people then berate how bad they’ve been and say you’re short of patience. But that’s him! Remember when they forced Coughlin to fire coordinators and bring in McAdoo? Or when they hired McAdoo and kept Coughlin’s staff? Or blaming Coughlin for Reese’s ineptitude? How about the fiasco with benching Eli for Geno? Do we really need to get into Gettleman/Shurmur/Judge? Look at the decision making with Jones and Barkley.

I also think Mara wanted Jones re-signed and they compromised with the 2-year out, Schoen/Daboll hoping they could improve him and now they’re getting another chance. That whole thing was weird both in structure and reasoning, or, in other words, on-point for John.

I think the only reason that makes sense that Schoen and Daboll still have their jobs is because Mara forced their hand with Jones. If they made that decision alone without ownership weighing in, they are probably out.

It pains me to look at how bad their decisions have been and how many really good players they have not retained. Today an article by Dan Duggan at the Athletic makes a simple case that the Giants had the money to retain McKinney and Saquon as they start the year with $50M+ over the salary cap and he analyzed Schoen's free agent aquistions and its not as rosy as you think. So many bad decisions by the Giants - it's crazy when you add it up.

You want an inept organization? Look at the browns giving Deshaun Watson a fully guaranteed monster contract after 20 something lawsuits. The giants gave Jones a 2 year deal after winning a road playoff game..

As for picking Jones over Barkley. We know exactly what he would’ve done this year on a crappy giants team and it’s nowhere near what he did on the Eagles. Therefore the money required wouldn’t have been worth it.

The NFL has turned into the NBA. Either you have a superstar or great QB or you don’t. Long gone are the days of the 2000 Ravens and 2007? Bears going to the Super Bowl with defense.

The favorites this year are Chiefs (Mahomes), Bills (Allen), Ravens (Jackson) and The Lions (Goff). 3 mega superstars and another guy who already QB’d a team in the Super Bowl..

And there’s only so many great QB’s to go around.

The great Bill Parcells once said “you are what your record says you are.” If that’s the case they’re garbage. Bottom dwellers of the NFL. How can you keep the status quo of that?

And how did Wellington do in the 60s and 70s?? He should’ve sold! Right???
From 1964 to 1978 the Giants under Wellington Mara were the worst team in the NFL. That stretch prompted a plane flying over Giants stadium saying 15 years of lousy football we have had enough and burning tickets outside the stadium. This also precipitated the hiring of George Young. Tim Mara probably did want his uncle to sell.

I know……. And yet a few years later they were Super Bowl Champa. I guess Mara magically understood football that he didn’t before

Dude the whole point is Wellington Mara stopped making football decisions when George Young came about. Then Ernie Acorsi took over for Young and the success continued. Now another Mara is making and influencing football decisions who hired Joe Judge McAdoo etc. and wanted Jones resigned to a long term contract. What a coincidence!
