If we offer $700K to a player and same player has a $700K offer from someone else, isn’t it a possibility said player simply wants to go play for another HC/program?
Sure, but you know, we’ll never know the answer to that question. Wins and losses will dictate the future of the coach and program.

Weren’t we told they had the Money this time?

They have money, however, they didn't know how to properly read the market and the amount of money we have cannot get us any bonafide go-to players. So it seems like we are going to get a bunch of role players again.

Like KW has said. The college game is bout defending the 3 and shooting the 3.
We all want our team to do better at shooting 3 pointers. Let’s not forget how terrible we were at defending 3 pointers attempts. I don’t need to look at any stats to remember the countless times our players seemed lost on defense and allowed wide open looks. Do better.

But Sha said , after the Butler Game this Year where SHU shot 9/17 , shooting too many 3s is Fool's Gold.
That was in a response to a question I asked him in the post game. I totally disagreed with him then and obviously still do.

Clearly without saying it he meant with the players we had. But without me saying it his way wasn't working then and would not throughout the season.

Meanwhile:

According to Joe Tipton of On3 Sports, former Dayton guard Malachi Smith is visiting with the Huskies.

"Former Dayton guard Malachi Smith is currently visiting UConn," Tipton wrote. "Smith is also considering Wake Forest, Georgia, among others. He's rated as the sixth best available combo guard in the portal, per On3."

Smith would be a big-time get for Hurley and company. He had a strong season with Dayton during the 2024-25 campaign.

During the 2024-25 season, Smith averaged 10.4 points, 5.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in 33 games played. He started in 31 of those appearances.

In addition to his averages, he shot 42.4 percent from the floor overall and connected on 38.3 percent of his three-point attempts.

Many people bid more than something is worth if they really want it. In our situation we need to bid more. Maybe a lot more. Can Sha fathom doing that.? Would he consider it for a second? I would bet my house … no. Oh .. I paid too much for my house but my wife really wanted it. Happy wife…happy life. That was 45 years ago. But I over paid.

No, I don't. And it is a significant factor.

Here is also what I do, and what I've done my entire career. I also factor into any professional decision the surrounding factors that are going to help me become the best at what I want to do.

If shaheen has a budget how can u expect him to buy a player that will take up 25% of that total budget? He wont be able to field a team. Dont u think he wants better talent??

And the Johnnies are that family that bought the house at the right time, and have a 3% interest rate locked in.

If you go by 247, Creighton, Gtown and Providence have better portal “classes” than them right now.

And that doesn’t count UConn who got one of the highest ticket guards in the portal plus got Ball, Reed and Stewart to all return.

Our number listed for last year was $1.5m. I think that was probably inflated by double. And I think our current number is maybe $1m.

If we had the money tht we’ve been told we have plus having the desperation of getting rid of last season abdominal stench. You’d think we’d be reaching out to DJ Wagner, Aaron Bradshaw, Bryce Hopkins, RJ Luis.. But no, we go straight to the basement of the portal. All the signs are showing we are finished, no matter what propaganda is put out here.

You have firsthand knowledge of the collective amount, and obviously you're 100% credible, so who would question the "I think"s?

Not only were we a bad basketball team last year, now we're hearing from a good source (also you) that their mid sections smelled foul, too.

Glad to have you on the inside.

Conclusion: SH b-ball as we once loved and knew it is over. 😰
I don’t think that’s true. If we had $5 million this offseason (as reported by many), that’s a bit behind but enough for a competent group of coaches and administrators to build a decent team.

Which means that if the team sucks again, any finger pointing is fair game.

"Estimates" from Miya -- who knows how accurate, listing the highest spending portal teams to date. And this does not account for UCONN just landing a second PG, Malachi Smith, who it seems they sold on a backup role I believe while getting opportunities when Demary, the big ticket item, plays off-the-ball. Although the Maryland number surprises me some given who they lost and all of Willard's comments before he jumped for the Nova job. 3 Big East teams listed -- Creighton, Gtown and Xavier.

Here are the CBB programs that are *estimated* to have spent the most NIL money on incoming transfers this offseason so far.

Michigan 8.8 million
Kentucky 7.6m
Maryland 7.1m
Miami 7.1m
Iowa 6.6m
Virginia 6.2m
Washington 5.9m
Creighton 5.6m
Georgetown 5.5m
Xavier 5.5m

Also on Big East podcast one of the contributors -- granted a former assistant coach on Mac's staff -- said the big kid they got from Iowa (Freeman) took less to go play for the Jays than he was offered elsewhere.

And for additional context, 23, per my count, above are the number of incoming transfers that "estimated" money is accounting for.

Maryland at 7.1. Was Willard not complaining about the weak NIL situation there?

Yes this is what I said in my post.

Either the above is wrong because so much out there is wrong. Although Miya isn’t going to push narratives like others do on NIL.

Or Willard woke up MD and they had to commit to get Buzz.

Willard was committed $7m before he left, he said he needed more
