Trump at 100 Days

Nevermind there's no way to pay for all the lost revenue that this would cause.

Certainly an issue but they can start by making big cuts to the spending side of the equation. Nobody ever thinks to do this in government but that's what must be done for our country to be financially fit in the long run.

If massive defense cuts came along with this massive attempt at a tax cut for the donor class, then I'd be more okay with it. Instead, this clown is attempting to increase defense spending under the guise of needing to "rebulld" a military that has zero need to be rebuilt.

I am with you there. Our military does not need more money thrown its way. It already receives too much.

Not sure what I like more...a simplified tax plan or seeing Bobbie unhinged...

Tax reform should be of utmost importance but tax reform without spending reform is silly. Need to cut spending across the board: military, entitlements, unconstitutional programs, etc., nothing should be sacred.

In a stunning display of arrogance and incompetence, Donald Trump trumpeted out his new tax plan. Absent much specificity, yet boasting about this plan.

Isn't it equally arrogant and incompetent to complain until you know the details?

Corporations and pass through getting a huge tax break from 35% to 15%. Clearly benefiting the wealthy.

U.S. corporations getting a tax break to level the playing field with foreign corporations seems like a good idea to me unless you're anti-american.

I don't get pass-throughs being taxed at the lower corporate rate, although many, many are small businesses that on pass-through may be paying lower than 15% now.

Moreover, deductions such as your property taxes will no longer be deductible which will hit a state like New Jersey incredibly hard.

Not knowing what the tax brackets are means nobody knows what this means and with a doubling of standard deductions, a married couple paying $12,000 or less in property taxes will end up paying less in taxes.

Need to wait and see the details, in his first campaign proposal, personal exemptions were gone I believe... but there was no tax ip to 50k for a family so we will see how it plays out.

Assuming they keep the exemptions, my itemized deductions were just over 24k last year, so my taxes would probably go down slightly with the new rates. Lower income families who don't own homes would see a fairly large decrease in their taxes... which is a probably a good thing. That said, I'm not sure how the housing market will react to removing some of the incentive for home ownership.

All this talk of tax cuts that favor the wealthy donor class & uber rich, and nothing about raising the minimum wage, something that would immediately and directly help the millions of people they claim to care about.

Those middle class & lower that continue to vote against their own self-interests will never cease to befuddle me. "What's Wrong With Kansas" is right.

To be fair, a middle class family in Kansas will probably get a larger deduction and a lower effective tax potentially saving them over $1k per year which isn't chump change... but of course doesn't compare to the absurd amounts that the top income earners will save.

There is no way in hell everyone can get a cut and the bill being deficit neutral though. I don't see it passing near it's current listed rates and form.

On the surface, I'm a big fan of this tax plan. We do need to see where the income brackets are set, however.
The tax code must be simplified. Reducing the brackets from 7 to 3 is a great start. Eliminating most, if not all, deductions and increasing the standard deduction is even better. I hope they can work this out and pass it, would be great for the country and economic growth.[/quote="

You really think 3 brackets is a fair? I agree that many deductions should be eliminated but certainly not the property tax deduction. I actually think there needs to be more brackets. Someone who makes $400,000 should not be taxed the same percentage as someone who makes $4 million a year and that person should not be taxed the same as someone who makes 4 billion a year.

His previous tax plans were anyone making over $125,000 was in the top tax bracket. That means a lot of hard working professionals would actually see a huge tax increase meanwhile, the Uber rich get a big decrease. Not fair and not good policy.

New Jersey has the highest property tax in the nation. This bill eliminating the property tax deduction will hit NJ residents incredibly hard. The effect will be to force those who can move out of state to do so.

Hello Pennsylvania...

Maybe this will finally force lawmakers and the public to address the causes of our ridiculously high taxes (but they won't).

Government layoffs should continue at all levels - state, federal, and local. Remember that the private sector pays for the public sector - not the other way around.

Only hits those whose property taxes are over $12,000 and that doesn't take into account where new marginal tax rates become efftective.

High property taxes have been forcing people out of NJ for years regardless of the federal tax effect.

Public sector is a virus. Why should government workers get a pension? Thst eats us alive in taxes. Get rid or these people.

You have the oddest views. Get rid of government workers? So you want anarchy? Do you have any idea how much your State and local governments do? And are you seriously complaining about pensions?

The overwhelming majority of workers after working 25-30 sometimes 40 years retire at the age of 60 years old and get a 20k or 30 k pension. These are solid middle class workers.

And what affects property taxes is that at least 50% of your property tax goes to your local school system.

Issues that must be corrected that will help property taxes are

1) Must limit unused vacation and sick to a payout of $15,000. These checks hand d out to a chief of police in th 6 figure range is out ravenous and hurts towns.

2) Too many municipalities which have an unbelievable amount of duplication of service. Bergen County has like 72 Towns! This is what is really the driver of property taxes. That's a lot of school systems and a lot of teachers and superintendents and police forces etc.

Bobby, here is where I break with Democratic orthodoxy. The tax cuts to favor the rich is absurd. However, I do not agree with raising the minimum wage. There are far too many small business owners that this would damage. I believe a $15 min wage would drive a lot of business to cut employees. This will not be good for anyone.

21 Dem Senators now disagree with you, up from just 5 in 2015. And the city of Seattle doesn't seem to be imploding, so I would much rather see this experiment through. How do we know if will success if we don't try? We have decades & decades of evidence proving the tactics of the other side don't work, let's try and do some real progressive measures, not half measures, and see how it goes. It's not like there won't be a massive movement from the right & establishment Dems to go back on it if it does damage.

But I know it won't. The reason it is fought so ruthlessly against is b/c the business lobby knows that once you let this out of the bag, good luck ever getting it back in b/c it will be so immensely popular, just like gay marriage, Obamacare & marijuana legalization.

While I am in favor of gay marriage, legalization of marijuana and I would like to see single payer system of health care, $15 min wage is too high. So a dish washer deserves $15 an hour? The person who carries a sign outside of a store deserves $15 an hour? If that's true, what does a more skilled job deserve? What does the landscaper deserve? How does the mom and pop store be able to pay their employeees?

Exactly. If you pay those kinds of jobs $15/hour, wages and salaries for more skilled jobs must go up.

Ok, so can we go to $10? $12? Bernie's no dummy. By starting at $15, if this ever actually becomes a real piece of legislation at 2020 or later, maybe we get it to $12 after compromising with "blue dogs" (read: Republicans that don't hate gays & are ok with women controlling their own bodies) & moderate Republicans. You never start negotiations in the middle like weak ass Obama did. You start out farther to the left on things in the hopes that you get more of what you want later. Republicans do it every time (look at their nonsensical "tax plan" for the latest proof) and win with it. Would be nice if Dem leadership ever realized this themselves. With Bernie in a leadership role now, maybe this is a good sign of the stronger tactics they might finally use in the future, but I'm not holding my breath.

In NJ, we are at $8.44, the federal minimal wage is $7.25. While the federal wage can go up, I really can't see it going more than $9 per hour.

I do believe the federal minimum wage should be indexed to inflation at the very least, and cost of living as well. I wouldn't be opposed to something in the neighborhood of $10.

Keep in mind that states are free to go higher than the federal number, as they should be. A blanket $15 federal minimum wage would have many unintended consequences, such as crippling businesses in the south, midwest, etc where the cost of living is much lower than it is here in New Jersey but their revenue and profit margins are thinner to begin with. One size doesn't fit all.

Agree on this. $15 is too high for most of the country and even if we did have $15, it would take a few years for the market to adjust and $15 an hour wouldn't feel much different than $8 an hour does today and we wouldn't have really accomplished anything.

It should be increased and indexed to inflation.

I see nothing wrong with coming out strong with that #, considering the massive opposition the idea has now from the right. Then maybe things settle where you guys want them.

9:53-11:57 in this video explains my point better on how to frame the fight to raise the minimum wage against the potential geographic realities you guys outline:

turn the volume WAY up if you want to hear the producer's questions from the viewer better before the reporter answers. The whole vid is a good watch also.
