Trump Sinking the Market with Tariffs

I called you out that you don’t know anything about the tariffs, gave u proof that you were wrong and you ignored it. Now you want to be a little bitch about it because I called u exactly what you are.
Well... one of us is having a temper tantrum and the other isn't. At the end of the day, I come to this site because I enjoy talking basketball with fans of another program. I don't see any point in trying to have a nuanced economics discussion with someone who is becoming increasingly more upset.

It's all good, you be you. Feel free to have the last word.

Your TDS is at it again. You are really something else!
He's the best. Guy won't address the fact that when Biden was causing inflation left and right his message was you won't see the full impact for years after Biden's out of office (expecting 8 years of him), now we see the full impact of tariffs in days. Amazing.

Yes, presidential power is too much. But that's a problem 40+ years in the making and nobody has ever done anything to stop it.

The rest of your post is a complete overreaction. The economy is not "tanking." I also did not think you'd be one to be against cutting waste and spending in government.
I’m fine with cutting waste in government. But do it with just a hair of class. Instead you have Trump and Elon calling out federal workers and demonizing them and now the Trumpers follow too. Most Federal workers are actual workers. It’s the appointees that are the problem. And many if the Doge won’t stick because Senate and Congress are not involved and approved those agencies by law. Some things will stick and that is good but have a little class in how you go about it.

Trump was voted in to clean up the border and to reduce inflation and improve the economy. The economy was improving last year. He’s now adding to inflation and taxing us with his tariffs. We will pay more now for lots of goods and services. It will take time and supply chains can’t change overnight. It will cost more in America to produce lots of these goods as our cost of living is higher and don’t forget the unions. If this was more targeted I could respect it but it’s not. It’s haphazard and rushed. I voted for him so shame on me. But I’m gonna call him out when he screws up and the tariffs are a royal screw up the way he’s applying it. Target the tariffs to the worst offenders. Promote US competition.

Again our choices for President sucked and this is what we get for our flawed system.

I don't know what's going to happen with the tariffs in the long run. I'm willing to give it a chance. Not going nuts because America is taking a risk and not playing it safe. But this is the first era in American history where people haven't suffered for the benefit of the country. If Trump came out and did an FDR type speech of the the harder the sacrifice, the more glorious the triumph people wouldn't be supportive because everyone wants what they want and they want it now. Sacrifice isn't in our vocabulary as a country any more. It wouldn't be terrible to get to a point where we buy things with the tag made in the USA. Question is will the end result be greater than the sacrifice.

And you're right to say something when you don't like it. Teddy Roosevelt once said it's not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public to not speak out with criticism against the president. People lied to us the last 4 years about Biden. I hope we're honest about Trump and criticize when necessary but applaud when necessary. But I'm not going nuts this early in the tariff game. I just find it comical that those who wouldn't criticize the former president for anything, are quick to criticize here. It just shows an agenda.

The tariff policy is economic warfare and completely over the top. It needed to be targeted. And American companies need to produce goods that more people want. Competition helps the trade imbalance. The car companies for instance have lost the competition for years and Americans choose cars they want. This will lessen competition.

The biggest issue is the powers of the Presidency. We have now allowed Presidents way too much power. One man or woman can tank our economy because they have way too much power. There is supposed to be separation of powers and we’ve watched the last few Presidents dictate policy as the Senate and Congress sit idle.

Trumps Doge and tariff policies are incredible over reach. That is the real issue. It’s too much power and a lot of it is most likely unconstitutional. Hoping someone stands up in Congress. Senate has tried lead by folks like Rand Paul but everyone is afraid they will lose their cushy positions in Congress so Congress just hopes his crazy tariffs will work. It’s now a Constitutional issue.
hmm allowing the presidency too much power, the highest position in government. aka the government. the government has too much power. didnt people want to avoid that?

Classic TDS liberal, which he has been for years on here. Name calling and cursing are the hallmarks of them. It's sad that so many people like him have lost their minds just because they don't like who's president. He certainly isn't the only one.
Hilarious watching posters crying about personal attacks while defending the guy who's entire political career is based off crude personal attacks. I would call you hypocrites but you are probably too dumb to understand the concept of hypocrisy.

How can you defend Trump and then beg for political correctness? What an absolute moron

Agree we should call them out when we disagree. I was very critical of Biden. Open borders, the liberal leaning everything. I said he wasn’t running the country as well. Why do you think I voted for Trump? It wasn’t because I like him. It was because he was the lesser of two evils. He ran on border security, improving trade and fixing the economy among other things. He should not be causing inflation and adding taxes (that is what tariffs are effectively). Dr Tinari taught me my economics well at Seton Hall. Tariffs are anti competition and you and I will pay for it. Do you think it will cost less for US manufacturing with our unions and our cost of living? Who will pay for the huge change in supply chains too? The consumer. It’s one thing to promote US manufacturing and target egregious trading partners. That approach was the right direction. This will not end well and the retaliatory tariffs have just begun. Other countries know Trump will be gone in 31/2years and will wait him out and trade with other partners.

I hope I’m wrong.

It’s called balance of power. That is how the Constitution was written. But Congress and Senate continue to not do much of anything unfortunately failing you and me.

I’m hoping both sides say these tariffs are stupid and both sides end them. Question is can the tariffs impact these countries enough they can’t wait 3 years. If they can wait they’re going to use our system against us. If they can’t it could be very good for America. We are worried about the American consumer paying more but these other countries have never worried about their citizens paying more for our goods. Maybe this causes a place like Paterson to be silk city again.

For 20+years I ran a turkey drive and brought 500+ turkeys plus truckloads of food to churches in Paterson and Passaic each year. Not sure anything can bring Paterson back. Such a tough place now. But other places for sure.
