This administration has pushed to finally start playing the long game against China. The CHIPS act and Inflation reduction act alone are incredibly significant in moving away from our reliance on China. Biden has a good record on China so far.

My assumption is that they go through contents and look specifically for documents with classified markings. If the run across a legal pad with notes, why would they take those? Is their task to read everything and then also interpret personal notes as to whether they should be classified or not? That seems way out of scope or ability of the FBI.

No one commented on this. But for a balloon, he is weak and demented. Let's not have a knee jerk reaction. Clearly, there is a reason that they have not shot down this balloon. I don't believe the US is "doing nothing". We are just not being told what we are doing and for good reason.

The path of the balloon is concerning.

Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana has nukes. Minot was in the general area of the path but I have not found confirmation that it traversed that base.

I can personally attest to the regular use of satellites to surveil us. One difference here is that photos taken at 12 miles are 8X clearer than photos taken at 100 miles.

Non personal notes are presidential records. That’s why they would take them. They are not going to be reading through the notepad.

Someone else will look through the notepad and determine if they are personal or not, and if not if they contain classified information or not.

If they are personal, they will be returned.
If they are non personal and contain no classified information, the archives will copy them and prepare for public release in whatever year that’s required.
If they are non personal and contain classified information, they wont be released unless someone declassifies them.

My thought was you bring it down as best you can and assess what was on board. Not to sound trite, but it’s a balloon…can you send something up there and put small enough punctures to create a slow but inevitable descent.

Assuming the obvious that our military leaders are considering all options but we have an object this large and traveling this slow. Can it be releasing any substances in its travels that would go undetected?

I’m in agreement that somethings need to be left unknown, but it’s natural for questions to be asked especially when it wasn’t reported by the administration until someone detected it.
