Northern Kentucky, that's a fabulous and over-the-top court design. (NKU Athletics)

Every offseason, thankfully, we get two or three schools that opt to just go wild with their basketball court designs.

Northern Kentucky, you're up.

THAT'S A VIKING SHIP.

It looks right out of Game of Thrones, really. (At least, GOT should have Viking ships -- lots of them.) Being the Norse, the university is totally embracing this seafaring identity ... despite being located right along the Kentucky/Ohio border, next to Cincinnati.

But hey! It's all good. This is eye-grabbing, fairly over the top, and I'm all for it. This floor concept was unveiled Wednesday morning.

"We wanted a new, fresh look for the court to showcase the Norse brand," school AD Ken Bothof said. "The Norse ship rising through the sea is meant to serve as a metaphor for the uprising of Northern Kentucky athletics."

Sounds as good a reason as any to go big. To go Viking-big.

I like it as well. Nothing like that Oregon court from a year or two ago.

Forget the logo, it looks like a nice arena for a school/program I've only vaguely heard about. The website implies it is on -campus and holds 9,200. I'd take it---logo and all---in a N.Y. minute.

I am not a big fan of these style court designs, but I don't find this one that bad. Doesn't dominate court as some others do.
