South Orange, N.J. -- The Seton Hall University community gathered Wednesday for the blessing and ribbon cutting ceremony for the brand new, state of the art Seton Hall Basketball Performance Center.

On hand to cut the ceremonial ribbon were Monsignor Joseph R. Reilly, S.T.L., Ph.D., Director of Athletics Bryan Felt '97, Board of Regents Chair Hank D'Alessandro '85, Regent Patrick Murray '64, MBA '72, members of the Frungillo family including Al and Michael Frungillo '96, University VP for Advancement Jon Paparsenos '99 and Seton Hall men's basketball head coach Shaheen Holloway '00.

Located within the Richie Regan Recreation & Athletic Center on the South Orange campus, the Basketball Practice Performance center includes a new basketball court, locker rooms, lounges, offices, sports medicine room, strength and conditioning room, equipment room, film room and more. The creation of the basketball performance also includes enhancements to women's basketball facilities and is the culmination of 10-year master facilities plan for Seton Hall Athletics.

What struck one of the most responsive cords with me was Bryan’s reference to the importance of successful basketball to the brand and identity of the University as a whole. For too long that important element has been slowly eaten away for numerous reasons and we ‘ll have to wait to see if we’re back on an upward trend and the quality of the recruits we bring in and those who return for the 2025 - 2026 class may give us a clue.

There were numerous references to Seton Hall basketball and being successful again and now it’s time to see if those are mere words or does this University achieve those important goals.

Before NIL this would have mattered in recruiting. Now, not so much. It’s all about “show me the $$$”.
That may be true but it’s still an important asset to have when you’re.out recruiting and it also shows we’re serious about being competitive in the Big East by giving our players the tools to make them better .
