I can't believe that a group of women representing our country would stand there and not even place their hands over their hearts while the national anthem was being played. Meanwhile, the Korean team all stood proudly, singing their anthem.

I can't believe I am saying this, but I cannot root for our own team. I will not watch them and actually hope they lose every game.

If they really wanted to send a message for their anti-American cause, they wouldn’t play women’s soccer. No one watches it

How dare they sit. How dare they kneel. How dare they stand? Why aren't they singing?

Getting a bit silly now.

Every other player, representing their country shows respect and pride while their anthem plays except ours. I am silly for wanting out girls to show respect and pride? If you truly believe that, you are as anti-American as they are. Shame on you.

I do not view standing silently with your arms at your side or clasped in front or in back as disrespectful.

Take a cue from Formula 1 which has several different nations involved. Customary to play the anthem of the host nation before the race.

@SHUMatt Fix your post so it doesn't look like I would say something that ridiculous.

Rapinoe kneeled and everyone complained. This team stands respectfully facing the flag and your still complaining? Get out of the outrage culture.

Unrelated I am a bit surprised we have not had any trans men player join the women’s team which would likely make them unbeatable and blowing the competition away.Same thing for WBB.Imagine a 6-11 backup college player joining SHU women’s team and giving them a shot at the brass ring.

Personally, I don't care. But this group tends to "seek out" this particular attention for some reason (or reasons, because I'm sure it differs).

i dont place my hand over my heart. very few people do. check around at your next game you attend. more outrage from snowflakes. cant we just go back to being mad at barbie for whatever reason?

Don’t know that I’ve ever seen our basketball players singing the anthem. They all stand respectfully facing the flag. Can the US women not do the same?

Didn’t watch the video, but if no one is sitting, kneeling, turning a back, who gives a shit if their mouths are moving or not.

I don’t sing the anthem. I know the words, but choose not to. But I face the flag with my hand on my heart.

I bet some who are outraged don’t even remove their hats at our games.

Respectfully??? 75% of the players were barely paying attention…. This issue was brought up with the USMNT also….

Rapinoe kneeled and the issue was with me if you really want to make a stand, don’t play for the country then, sit out… but she never would.

With this you are representing the country in this tournament… it’s an issue with the men too… evidently they seem
To think they are too cool to sing… while every other country no matter how horrible it is to live in that country, sing with pride….

It has always been common for athletes to stand during the anthem. Some will have their hands over their hearts and some won't. It's never really been a big deal until recently.

For example - Probably the most celebrated US Olympic team ever - the 92 men's basketball team. Most did not have their hand over their heart during the medal ceremony. Wasn't a big deal.

Don't fall for the media telling you to be mad.

Media isn’t telling us to be mad, us soccer fans have been on both the mens and women’s teams for their conduct during the anthem for years… if you don’t think it’s a big deal, then that’s fine… but when you have a whole stadium of 50k people singing the anthem and you have 11 players standing their motionless and with no emotion it gets people annoyed…

Just because the media recently started mentioning it doesn’t mean it hasn’t been an issue for those who follow the team…

Not singing along is no issue at all. Not having your hand over your heart is an issue for me but not a deal breaker. Kneeling, hiding your head in a hoodie (one of our players does that), or otherwise being disrepectful is an issue for me as well.

As for the womens soccer team, I don't watch or care.

Personally, I put my hand over my heart when the anthem plays.
I don't know why they feel shouldn't in that moment. Maybe it is out of anger, ignorance, ambivalence or something else, but denigrating them for it is certainly not going to help them feel the pride that is missing.

Common sense dictates that if you ate representing your country on the national team, you should demonstrate the respect of the flag, as you are on the world stage.

The governing body should actually be providing those guidelines to the players in advance.

You reap what you sow, so by doing this, they’re going to get a variety of opinions, some not so favorable.

Rapinoe turned me off when she did the kneeling thing and the fact that she’s on the team kind of turns me off to begin with, so I haven’t been watching. I didn’t even know they were playing until I saw this post.

Who knows, right? For some it’s probably an inadvertent oversight as no doubt they are caught up in all kinds of emotions about the game. For others - one in particular - I’m sure this stuff is deliberate, trying to capture attention for her “brand” or “name” since women’s soccer takes a far back seat in this country to numerous other sports.

It’s simply, HEY LOOK AT ME

They have no clue what their cause is, but they should just play for another team if they are so outraged, Karens

Carli Lloyd provides behind-the-scenes examples of USWNT ‘entitlement’

By Ryan Glasspiegel

Carli Lloyd has continued to peel the curtain back behind the stunning collapse of the U.S. Women’s National Team.

Lloyd appeared on her Fox Sports colleague Alexi Lalas’s podcast earlier this week, and was asked about some of the factors she observed both as a member of the team and now as a media pundit that contributed to the team’s sluggish performance at this year’s World Cup.

“When I first got onto the team, there was just a level of respect for everyone there — for coaches, other players, support staff … massages, trainers, doctors,” Lloyd began.

“And as the years have kind of gone by, it’s little stuff, but it kind of amounts to big things, and ultimately affects [performance] on the field.”

Lloyd had forecasted some of the issues with the USWNT after they celebrated a 0-0 tie with Portugal to narrowly escape the group stage.

The USWNT fell to Sweden in the round of 16 in penalty kicks.

On Lalas’ podcast, Lloyd continued to provide glimpses of seemingly minor obnoxious behaviors that cascaded, ultimately breeding a sense of entitlement around some members of the team.

“If you’ve got a massage, for example, your name’s signed up at a certain time, and you decide to not show up, and decide not to text the massage therapist, or tell them, ‘Hey, I’m running a few minutes late.’ They’re just sitting there and they have to just sit there, and swallow it, and not really say anything to the player that’s done that,” Lloyd continued.

“There’s just things like that. It’s like trash around the field. It’s throwing your warm-up [apparel] and expecting the equipment guy [to pick it up].

“There’s a level of — I guess not everybody — but a level of entitlement, that I guess everyone’s gonna do everything for you and just not being respectful of others. That starts at the top. That should be the coach, that should be the leader, and it should funnel on down to the players.”

I also have an issue with kneeling and hoodies but not with a hand over your heart . I have been to 2 sporting events this past week and during the playing of the anthem I looked around and I would say most people sang but less then 50% had their hands over their hearts . As long as you stand and respect the flag I'm OK with that. Hard to measure your patriotism unless you down right disrespect it .

I don’t disagree with her, but she seems to be complaining about things that occurred while she was on the team, when they won?

Different situation. They are representing their country at an international tournament. Not the same as a general fan or athlete at an average game.

With the kneeling stuff and protesting during the game and during the anthem… that’s hypocritical… if you have an issue with the country and what’s going on and saying you can’t respect the flag of a country that does what it does, why play and represent that and wear the colors of that flag? If you really feel that strongly making the statement by not playing is 10x stronger and will make much more of an impression.

I would respect that, that would be a tough decision to make. Going out there, kneeling, doing stuff like that isn’t brave. But of course they would never do that because they get paid and want the check…. Want to make a stand but also want the money they get from the federation representing the country you seem to not respect.

Yes because things don’t fall apart immediately. People who get greedy and take advantage of the system don’t get caught in a day. Eventually things unravel over time. Is it possible she saw a different attitude that went from hunger to entitlement while they were dominant? Of course. Is it possible that entitlement is why they’re no longer dominant.

It’s not like a group of players who were once hungry and gave it all they got and became the best in the world, woke up with entitlement and that very day the rest of the world caught up to them.

People are making a big mistake blaming everything that happened with the failure of this World Cup in entitlement and attitude and things going on behind the scenes… im
Not saying that wasn’t an issue, but the rest of the world is catching up quick, the more you ignore that the worse it’s going to get

Agree that other factors contributed to their poor results. The entitlement piece and their actions was more about fans being turned off this time around.

I'm not really sure anyone is blaming entitlement for the loss. It's a character trait that doesn't help. Things seem to fall in line when your most talented players are your most humble and hardest working. It seems that wasn't the case here. Now you can still win if you're entitled but work hard or are just flat out better than the competition. The rest of the world was eventually going to catch up to us. Entitlement and attitude never determines a single outcome, but with more humility and better attitude we may have been able to keep our distance at the top from the rest of the world a little longer.

Also I'm curious if we had our best players or was this like a superstar fairwell tour where players who couldn't be cut because of their legendary names were on the team over players who deserved to be there more for what they can do in 2023 not what they did in 2015.

Carly Lloyd is def blaming that, and a lot of people are blaming stuff like that… also blaming the coach. All probably played a part, but the bigger issue is the technical abilities and just relying on athleticism…

Also, they were missing a few players due to injury, but England is missing their top 2-3 players on their team and are in the semis…. Spain and france had a few players refuse to play… usa wasn’t the only team with Injuries

I watched the USGA Women's Amateur final match yesterday.

Two fine young women competing in the true spirit of sportsmanship.

This video starts with the runner up. Class act.
