UVA vs Colorado St

As much as it would have stung, I’d rather have seen SJU or Providence in over VA even if we got the snub. As badly as I feel for our team, it’s worse for the BE. As someone said, Big East was just deemed a mid major in one fell swoop, even though we have 30% of the top 10 seeds.

I’m still dumbfounded that we played the same schedule as the big 3 (as everyone does in a double round robin) and were only one game back of two top 10 teams with one “bad” loss in an early rivalry game, but are home. The record is a 6-7 seed if our name was Wisconsin or something. But the metrics that somehow Virginia overcame are what sent us home.
The Bubble teams always have enough blemishes to justify any decision. But if we think these decisions are made solely on basketball I’ve got a bridge to sell you. Idk what went on here but clearly the BE wasn’t seen as strong despite our teams had to play these high seeds all year! It’s just the way it is and no we’ll never see a transcript. Providence to me should’ve been higher and way higher than St. John’s.

And it’s not even crazy bc all these teams are so close anyway that’s why you need to have a more balanced profile. You gotta stay above the fray and SHU tried to pull out of that non-con mess to get above it. They got close, just not enough. I’d love to hear the debates lol.

I agree with most of the vitriol and anger directed at the committee and such, but I would like to remind everyone last time we were in the tourney, we lost 69-42...

I think a lot of bubble teams have blemishes, but also have proved that they don't belong in. Even if you don't like Jay Bilas he is spot on when he said all these bubble teams have proven that they can lose. So these 10-10 Q1 & Q2 teams that have only 1-2 Q1 wins probably should not get in and like last year NC state was squarely in as a 10 seed and was handled by Creighton. And now there are teams with 3-4 Q3 losses maybe even a Q4 loss getting in because of a really good couple of wins. And some teams had more Q4 games played than Q3 & Q4 combined games played for some teams.

I get it is not supposed to matter if you can win games in the tournament, but the committee is not selecting the best at large teams in so many of these situations.

The committee is human. Pedigree and name recognition surely play a role in their decisions, whether they acknowledge it or not. Virginia is an extremely well known program that has won a national championship in recent years, And that certainly had a role in them receiving a bid over teams like SHU, OU, PC. Etc.

Anyone who doesn’t acknowledge that is trying way too hard to come off as objective when the reality is right in front of us.

Sickening to see that smug ncaa selection chairman sitting Courtside watching that garbage
I think it's terrible that we got left home. Bad luck with the 5 stolen bids. We definitely have a gripe to get in over Virginia, Michigan State and others but unfortunately, it's a very subjective process that leaves itself open to ridicule every year. That part I could live with. But the part that makes me angry is watching that buffoon chairman of the committee stumble over himself by picking apart the 3 Big East team's resumes. It is clear they don't hold the Big East in high regard. To devalue our Win over UConn is absolutely asinine.

And yet Connecticut beat everyone else while he was injured.

If pedigree plays a role in picking the last few spots, why was UNC among the first four out last year? Why was Louisville among the first four out in 2021? Why were Colorado State, Florida Atlantic, and Dayton chosen this year over Rick Pitino and St. John's?

If the Commitee favors the football conferences (I know you didn't say this, but others have), why was Oklahoma excluded this year? Why were Oklahoma State, Rutgers and UNC among the first four out last year? Why were Oklahoma, SMU, and Texas A&M among the first four out in 2022?

I think everyone is trying too hard to find a rational explanation for something that can't be explained rationally. It's just a very loose process that is controlled by seemingly incompetent people. There's no conspiracy. There's no favoritism. They're doing their best, but someone is going to feel slighted every year. This year more so than others. It is what it is.

You have a fair point on past Blue Blood’s that were left out. I think UVA is a particularly aggravating selection though, because both their resume this season & the “eye test” told us they were not any more fit for the tournament than some of the teams immediately behind them. This was then confirmed by their putrid performance last night.

Of course there is no way to tell, but I have a feeling that if you swapped UVA’s metrics with SHU’s metrics, the Committee would still have them in and we’d still be out. Just my $.02.

They did. But it wasn’t a difficult or as dominant a stretch as one would think.

Home vs SJU (won by 4)
Home DePaul
@ Butler (won by 7)
@ Xavier (won by 5)
Home Georgetown

That’s not a gauntlet there and the results against the better teams reflect how important he is.

Virginia should not have been in the field. Clear mistake. But we all know (because we follow college hoops very closely) that selections like this happen literally every year. There are ALWAYS one or two headscratchers, the Commitee spokespeople ALWAYS sound like braindead idiots trying to explain their reasoning, and fans of the snubbed teams ALWAYS lose their minds about it. It is the most consistent thing about the process.

Remember when Buzz Williams published a research thesis explaining why Texas A&M was snubbed?

Was Khadary playing hurt in the Triple OT game vs Creighton? He had a triple double, but wasn't one hundred percent. I guess that didn't matter to the committee. Virginia has a 90 NET feel to me. DePaul may have beaten them last night.

No clue. He made some ridiculous plays in the Creighton game for a guy who was hurt. Go watch his offensive rebound put-back at the end of regulation. Not sure if his 8/32 shooting was injury or just exhaustion in the 3OT which is where the shooting really fell off. His situation with the “general soreness” will go down in history. I’m not so sure why it was a shock to the coach when he didn’t suit up against Providence after saying he couldn’t go in the pregame. Sha literally didn’t even prepare for him not to play. That’s usually not how an injury is handled. Something was up.

These Committee members couldn’t pull off a conspiracy lol. Getting college sports administrators together is a trip. They just have their own opinions and maybe agendas then vote. It’s like Survivor, just more entertaining.

metrics were also NOT supposed to be used in selection as stated by the committee. and sure enough i was right, they were. despite the fact it was stated over and over they weren't.

but when you got a committee member wrongly citing the clingin injury and going so deep to dismiss our best win (but not our losses) its essentially an attack.

They are not. If metrics were a factor in selection, Virginia wouldn't have gotten in.
