Walsh goes off for 21 kills and 17 digs as Seton Hall wins in five sets again.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sophomore Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) had a match-high 21 kills to go with a career-high 17 digs and the Seton Hall women's volleyball team outlasted DePaul, 3-2 (25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 16-25, 15-13), on Friday.

The Pirates used the same recipe tonight as they did to defeat UConn in Walsh Gym two weeks ago. The Hall won the first two sets in convincing fashion, before dropping sets three and four. The Pirates turned it back on for a strong effort in set five for the victory. The Hall has now played five sets in four of its first five BIG EAST matches so far this year and has three victories to show for it.

Walsh topped 20 kills for a third straight match, finishing with 21 kills and a career-high 17 digs. Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) also had a double-double, finishing with 23 assists and 13 digs.

Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.), Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) and Laila Wallace (Munster, Ind.) all also reached double-figures in kills.

SET 1:
The Hall raced out of the gate, scoring six of the first eight points in the first set and never looked back. The Pirates led wire-to-wire despite the set not being a blowout. Leading 16-14, The Hall scored four of the next five points, and a kill by Walsh gave it a 20-15 lead and forced a DePaul timeout. Leading 24-20, a block by Lucas and Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey) gave the set to the Pirates.

SET 2:
The Hall had a .366 attack percentage in the second set, compared to just .122 for DePaul as the Pirates continued their strong offensive attack. The Pirates had a match-high 19 kills in the second frame. Trailing 4-3, The Hall went on an 9-0 run to take a commanding 12-4 advantage. DePaul cut their deficit to 16-9, but the Pirates scored five straight, and a kill by Subasili put them on top, 21-9. The Blue Demons made a late charge, but The Hall held them off for a 25-19 victory.

SET 3:
DePaul scored the first five points of the third set to set the tone early. Although the Pirates rallied to tie the set at eight, the Blue Demons went on an 8-3 run to jump ahead 16-11. The Pirates rallied late and twice cut their deficit to just two points, but DePaul was able to hold them off late.

SET 4:
In set four it was the Blue Demons' turn to lead wire-to-wire. DePaul burst out with a 10-2 run to start the set and never looked back. DePaul had a team-high .361 attack percentage, while The Hall connected at a match-low .068. After DePaul's start, the Pirates never got closer than a five-point deficit for the remainder of the set in a 25-16 loss.

SET 5:
The Hall fell behind early in set five, 4-1, but this time, rallied. Down 8-5, The Hall went on a 6-1 run, and huge back-to-back blocks by Wallace and Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) gave The Hall an 11-9 advantage. Great to see the volleyball team do well and any accolades the players and coaching staff receive are well deserved. Head coach Shannon Thompson took over this program in late March of this year and she has done a terrific job moving this program forward . Not bad for a team picked to finish last in the Conference.

Great start to season. Doesn’t seem like a BE bottom feeder. Soccer respectable too.

Marquette will be a really tough test. Just hoping we can show well against them. A victory will be extremely difficult.
