We have our PG

Let’s see what happens. He fills up the stat sheet. Can he make the jump?

But I like it. Grabbing a PG early on that you (hopefully) want says something

Portal is flooded with shooting guards, Small forwards and power forwards not so much point guards and centers happy with this as long as we get some bigger names positions 2-4

I called this one back in December. I've coached against him at the grassroots level, and figured this was the next move for him. He is very quick, really creative off the dribble and hard for people to stay in front of. Outside shooting could be more consistent but mechanics aren't bad, he does have range, and is a three level scorer. Can finish at the rim through contact and over bigger defenders. Creates well for others, both the routine pass and the spectacular. Pesky defender. Absolutely belongs at this level. Does needs the ball in his hands all the time, so there is an iso component to his game which leads to others standing and watching, but overall this is a really solid pickup. Sha will really enjoy working with this kid, and helping smooth out any flaws in his game.

Quite frankly, we should be going after every mid major star in the northeast. It makes sense fiscally, these kids can really play, and moving to this level is a win for them. And for goodness sake, let's bring in some perimeter shooters.

Solid addition at a position we had to fill. I'm not worried about his size, small guards are playing well all over college basketball. His quickness, handling and shiftiness are top level. Seems like a gym rat who loves the game which Sha needs.

The key is who you surround him with. Need guys who can shoot. Shooting is basketball and being a threat from 3 spaces defenses. If you put 3 guys on the floor who can't shoot the 3, the lane will be packed. We whiffed on the first shooter we brought in for a visit.

Welcome Budd! Saw some videos. Quick, shifty and can create space to get his shot off. Nice assist to TO numbers too and he is a 70% + FT shooter. Nice get and hope he can make the jump. Seems physical for a small guard.

Any comparisons to Quincy McKnight?
Seems like very different players. Q was bigger, a two-guard at the mid-major level, scorer first mentality, who transitioned into an effective PG and high-level defender. This kid if everything breaks seems like a smaller PG that likes to get into the lane and play 15 feet in.

Maurice Watson was really good. The 2017 Creighton team was FF good until he got hurt.
Yea I was about to say that, and I don't think Fishjam was saying he's going to be that type of player, because he isn't one to go there with the "baby Mamu" and "baby Jokic" insane comparisons. I think Fish's point is that their style of play is similar.

But can we compare him to Allen Iverson for old times’ sake?

He is not 5'10" but if this is Sha's "player '' it is what it is. He should not be a Big East starter but could prove to be a good change of pace Guard.

Assuming we didn’t break the bank this is a great get. Really the most exciting transfer we’ve had in a while. Solid start but there needs to be much more to come.

Look at Derkack’s numbers against high major level teams when he was at Merrimack. He was a flat track bully. Clark’s numbers held up against real competition.
Derkack was slightly better from an offensive efficiency against Georgetown, Florida, and Cincinnati than Clark was this past season against high majors.

Both sucked though against high majors.

Clark is certainly decent, we'll have to see how much better than that he can become. I just don't get too excited over Merrimack transfers.

That's a nice pick up on a critical piece. Congrats!

I have to say the big east is killing it early in the portal. Except for us, so far.
The operative statement is "so far." My Conn buddies are concerned. Waiting on Ball and Karaban and maybe Reed. Can't see Ross staying as he hasn't seen much burn. Lots of movement on your squad. Can't play everyone and guys like Samson Johnson waiting for their "turn" is increasingly rare in today's NIL world. No question Hurley will get quality replacements. The issue is you're losing continuity year over year with players having bought into the Hurley system. May be a transition year in Storrs. Fascinating to watch as a Hall fan deep within Husky land.
