I have seen him play in person a few times. He plays with a chip on his shoulder. He can ball. The coach at Merrimack is very good. He gave Clark the keys to the team. Clark was a catalyst behind the move to the NEC and then the MAAC.
Yes, agree, but I do think that's the new reality. Definitely want to see tall guards as I feel like that was part of what was missing from this year. Very interested to see what the staff pull out of the portal.

Ball retuning is huge. Will be the best shooter in the league and one of the best scorers next year IMO.
Budd immediately injects some life into an offense that was extremely stagnant and boring.
Like what I hear but am a bit nervous about 5'10" defensively in BE and 23% 3 point %.

If he can’t shoot the three then I can’t get too excited. Does Sha actually believe what he said earlier this season about 3’s being ‘Fool’s Gold’? For a team that intends to excel I think your starting PG MUST be a good three-point shooter. At 5-10 and pretty thin he isn't going to be able to attack the basket in the Big East nearly as easily as he did in the MAAC.
Sorry to be such a stick in the mud. Pretty tough for me to ooze positivity over a non-three point shooting pg from Merrimack. We better bring in a pair of good three point shooters at the 2 and the 3 positions. If this recruit --to whom I wish well-- and Dual are our point guards next year we haven't moved the needle enough yet.
He did double his 3percentage from 14% to 28% from freshman to sophomore in a tougher league. Perhaps he can make the leap to mid 30s.
Someone mentioned he reminds them of Watson at Creighton. Watson never shot above 33% from 3 until his senior year at Creighton. He was still highly effective as a junior when he shot 33%. Well neeed shooters around Clark to maximize his game.

A 28% shooter is a 28% shooter...and that stinks. It stinks in the MAAC so no reason to think it'll be better in the Big East.
Please know I would LOVE to be wrong. I am not knocking this player; I'm simply analyzing his resume.
For sure. Eugene Harvey is a perfect example. But so many great ones could shoot. Barrett, Theodore, Whitehead come to mind. Bottom line, I'm surre we'd all be happier if his 28% percentage from the arc was 10 points higher.
Yes, that does stink, but he can improve. Quincy McKnight shot 26% from 3 here as a junior and we can all agree he was a heck of a player the next year.
Yes Quincy improved quite a bit and so did John Morton our Final Four year. But they are definite exceptions.
For the most part, if you can't shoot you're not likely to become a good shooter. Can Clark improve? Sure. But right now he's at 28% and that is poor.
What we need now are a 2 and 3 who CAN shoot.

Clark is one piece. We needed an improvement at PG. We got it. Now get the shooters around him.
Need a 2 & 3 that can stretch the floor, but also need a 4/5 with a post up game. Godswill, Okorafor and Aligbe combination is not scaring any defenses.

Many are forgetting that there is no guarantee that a good player or even a below average player during their junior year will be wearing the Seton Hall jersey in their Senior year. This is the new world we live in and we can only take one year at a time with a player.
I always loved lighting quick small point guards. That is why I really liked Jordan Walker. But at this level, the pg has to be able to hit the three. So I am fearful that he won’t be able to get it done.
The other issue is that if he can't make 3 pointers then you really need to add a shooting guard and small forward who are excellent 3 point shooters. What are the odds of that happening?

Also, having a good passing PG or 2, helps land those shooters.
Clark has a mature mid- range game which allows him to get his very high percentage shot off through creating space. A very good trait as the shot clock runs down.
Good start to recruiting a fix for last year's roster.

Harvey was also a bad shooter for a starting pg. his sr year it improved slightly. We don’t need 40% but if Clark could find a way into the 30s, that would be great.
I root for UConn when they aren't playing Seton Hall because it's good for the conference. They need to play defense next year. Watching all the BE tourney games every year you learn a lot about all the teams over a small sample size. UConn trademark defense wasn't there and Diarra wasn't the answer at PG either. Hope to see them reload for next year and fill in the blanks.
You can’t have everything in today’s market or you’ll have to pay a premium. If Clark shoots the three at 40%, his price tag is well over $1 million which limits you on the other priorities you need to fill. Kid has proven he can play 35 mpg and showed development from his freshman to sophomore season.
No, unless you get a 2G and Wing that can shoot and spread the floor….that will determine how effective Clark can be.
I think that's true. Having short guards cost us a bit at the perimeter so if Demary is on board, and I am hearing good things from his visit that's a start.
FWIW, Diara was hurt for much of the season, which slowed him down. Love the kid though. He gave everything he had. Mahaney ended up being a portal miss. He was never able to jump up to the speed and physicality of Big East basketball. It's probably best for everyone that he's reentered the portal.
That's close to the stats for John Morton. He shot 14%, 29% and then 41.8% his senior year.
Garwey was shooting the 3 well at the end of the year and visibly had more confidence taking them— if that continues , it will be huge for next year
I am very bullish re Clark. He was a leader in the country in scoring, assists and steals. He won’t score 20 but if he can score 12-13 per game that would work. He hits ft’s!!!!
Yes, and John had such an out of the box idea on how to improve. He shot threes all summer.
What so many of you forget when you bring up the guards we had in the past whether it is Sha, Morton etc. is that today's game is different and the style of play is to take and make MORE 3 point shots to be successful! If you can't make 3's then you need to be very strong in the low post to compete! I really don't see us recruiting the players to be really dominate in the low post. The money is simply not there. So if we are not getting kids for the back court that can make 3 pointers and at least one forward who can we are in deep trouble going forward.
