I blame the coaches for even allowing him in the lane. I just watched the reply. But he actually tried to tip the miss in. He touched the ball after reaching over the much smaller guard on the first spot in front of him. He wound up falling to the floor, but up one and KC trying to miss, he could have had an over the back with 2 FTs by UConn.

As is shown in replay , Samuel asked Sha if he should be on line and was told yes. Sha will learn end Game ( should not have had Femi be in position to take foul shots last Game ) .

was absolutely shocked they had anyone on the line, Miss it and take the chance on them hitting a 90 footer

I have no issue with Samuel being down there just to be an obstacle off the miss. Just be tall. Do nothing. Instead he did THAT. That’s a foul 99% of the time. Such a low IQ play with no understanding of game situation. How Breeding of all people didn’t call it is utterly amazing.

Even Mr. “look at my whistle” Breeding was probably too stunned at what he was looking at to call it.

Seemed there was a lot of indecision on what to do there. They had a Timeout left and probably should have discussed it. Missing purposely was the right move but Tyrese can't be in that situation.

I support putting a player there just to clog the area. But, don't really go for the rebound.

Plus, try to miss the shot (and definitely not make it short). A 3 pointer wins the game for UCONN no matter what.

sha called an amazing game. wondering tho if he told samuel to try and touch the ball? i just dont get it. although, this team is good for at least 10 extremely dumb plays a game.

part of me thinks KC didnt miss on purpose. i think sha knew hes iffy at best and has a good chance of missing anyway. why chance him missing rim?

Sha told Gary in the postgame presser that he did have KC miss on purpose. He just wishes Samuel didn’t go over the back.
oh thanks for the info. great shot by KC then. did gary ask why samuel was down there at all? just curious.

We needed a break! Maybe it was just a bang -bang end of the game sort of play! I'll take it ! Learn from it!

No mention of why he was there. Just that he had wished he didn’t go over the back. We dodged a bullet there for sure.

Yes, that could have turned into a bone head disaster but we need to give him a ton of credit on the defensive end.
Not sure if he watched a ton of film and picked it up, he figured it out or the coaches told him but he anticipated that little dump pass to the cutter UConn loves to use twice and got the turn overs late in the game.

Great job Tyrese!

The idea I believe was that if the miss went up in the air that Tyrese could simply jump straight up and tap the ball anywhere the game would be over without UCONN even being able to attempt a miracle shot.. however the ball bounced in such a perfect way to tue corner that he really didn’t have to do anything and tries too hard as a result to still tap it..

There was absolutely no reason at all to have anyone on the lane. UConn would have had to grab the rebound and in less than a second throw the ball 90 some feet into the basket.

Terrible decision by both the coach and the player. Both of whom otherwise positively strongly influenced the outcome.

See I don’t necessarily disagree with having him down there knowing you’re trying to miss on purpose. That being said, the player needs to understand that his job is to do absolutely nothing but put his hands up and be in the way. Crazier things have happened and those full court shots do go in from time to time.

Having your big man there to obstruct his view is a good thing in my opinion. It was over a second which is enough time to set and hoist. Samuel with his hands straight up in the air is one more deterrent for the shooter. Samuel made such a dumb decision that could have absolutely cost us the game. And very well should have may I add. I don’t think any of us would disagree with the call if he blew the whistle.

I never understood, why it's do difficult for a guy to stay on the line and just stand there with his hands up. Don't move your feet, don't move your hands just be an obstacle in the way. You have 3 potential obstacles standing still with their arms in the air, one guy on each side of the lane and the shooter if the rebound goes into the lane. And if the rebound goes anywhere else, so be it there's. It's just a clean look from 90 feet away.

Why even take the chance? Nothing good is going to happen with a SHU player on the lane. We're talking about a UConn player grabbing a rebound and in less than a second turning around and throwing the ball into the basket from nearly 100 feet.

Fair take and one of those individual coaching preferences. I lean toward trusting my players do understand the situation and know that I don’t even want him to try for a rebound. Hell, don’t even move a muscle. Just be there and stand your ground. I’m pretty sure it was something like 1.7 seconds which is enough time to gather, set, and take your best shot.

It’s not hard if the player is smart. As we know, Samuel doesn’t exactly have the highest basketball IQ and was probably the wrong player to put down there. Ndefo and Femi don’t make that mistake. They’re too smart for that.

Ty was not as over the back as i thought. He went up and got lowbridged by the guy next to him. I hated him being as active as he was. Def thought he fouled him live . But he went sprawling cause the other Uconn guy inside low bridged him. (And seeing a guy sprawling on top of another guy will cause a kneejerk whistle most of the time.)

What about the Dawes foul right after Richmond's basket put us up with one minute left in the game?
Had them on the ropes and he gave them a gift.
