Whitehead is a bit of a paradox to me so far in his career. He is no doubt a great talent. It seems as if he has all the tools to be a tremendous basketball player. Yet, something bothers me about his game. Last night was a microcosm of his career. He would have very poor moments and then fantastic moments. He would take an ill-advised fade away three point attempt early in the shot clock that would clang off the side of the backboard. Then later in the game he hits the dagger three pointer to finish the game. There was one point in the first half that on three consecutive trips he tried to make circus shots or a ridiculous three pointer in which he made none of these shots.
Too much individual plays against one or more players. But, on the other hand he plays pretty good defense and takes a lot of charges. He doesn't get the other players involved in the offense enough, yet he can really shut down an all-conference player to 13 points.
He is so tantalizingly close to being phenomenal. His biggest issues from what I can see are his shot selection, his handle and his mental approach to the game. I hope he pulls it all together because it would be so much fun to watch. I do not think he is the best player skill wise to ever don a Seton Hall uniform. That would be Eddie Griffin. He has not been the most productive player in his first year and 6 games as a Pirate. That would be Terry Dehere. But he has a chance to be the best NBA prospect this school has produced. (Since the Big East Conference was formed)
