To date the competition has offered no challenge and thus no definitive projection of the quality of this Pirate team. That will now change.

Iowa is in the same boat with two blowouts over outmatched opponents. This will be a challenge for both teams.

The difference will be the location.

I think our defensive intensity at home and depth of rotation is the difference this early in the season. Toss-up game.

Seton Hall 77

Hope I am wrong but they have great firepower on Offense and only 15 turnovers through 2 games. Key to a win is holding them under 75 and limiting our turnover to under 10

Very curious to see how Iowa handles the second half against fresher legs and aggressive defense

Like Seton75, I'm not going to pick against us and rarely jump in on these game prediction threads.

I will say, I haven't seen Iowa but I know they lost a bit so they, like almost every other school, is still figuring things out. It helps that they haven't had a coaching change so the returnees aren't learning a new system.

This will be a good test to see exactly where we are. From a competition level at least, it's a Big East type game. We'll have a better feel after Wednesday night where we might stand, what we can overcome and what we'll truly need to improve upon to be successful.

I think it will be a lower scoring game than most think although the pace will likely be quick. Honestly, I'm not sure I see us scoring 70 or more against most quality opponents. I just don't think we're all that skilled offensively.

Like Prof Ed, I see a game in the 60's.

Yeah our turnovers will be exploited by even a halfway decent team. We had 16 and 20 in our first two games. Also we have to take care of the rebounding, you cant afford to give teams second chances, especially moving forward.

Great test for two very different style teams. Can't make a prediction on this one, but curious to see how the defense stacks up against Iowa. Having the home crowd will certainly be a big help especially if it's a close game.

Iowa peaks early and has a low ceiling. I think the Hawks take care of the Pirates, but you guys will likely be the better team by the end of the year.

Isn’t that true for most decent teams?
Of course but a bit different here. Iowa expects to score in the high seventies/ low 80s. That’s how they win. Iowa is an up tempo offense with proven scorers. They won the B1G tournament last year (with Keegan Murray). It’s coach is known as an offensive minded coach similar to McDermott. SHU can’t outscore Iowa in a run and shoot game. So if our defense can hold down a high intensity offense team, then yes we have a chance.

I get worried if we go down by 10 or 12 + if we can come back…I think really good offensive teams will be tough matchups for us this year.
Iowa 78 - Hall 71

Talked line down from Hall laying -1 to pick-em and took under 148.5 hoping for a 74-70 Hall win ( well betting same too  ) Gotta rebound

None of us have much of an idea what to expect this year. Different coach , a very different system (and with a good # of last years players mixed with transfers) . With Iowa at least everyone is used to the coaches system. I agree we will get better as the season progresses , but on the other hand we mostly agree that they look much better than expected this early in the season. Especially on D

New coach, new system, players still learning to play together. There's just more continuity at Iowa right now. I like our team, but I think this game might show some growing pains. Hope I'm wrong, though.

I dont know, agreeing with both me and Prof Ed on one post. That is unprecedented!

Just imagine Seton Hall up 1 with 30 seconds left - Iowa has the ball - and Sha is going nuts on the sidelines stirring the student section into a frenzy.....Sha's sideline energy is infectious.

More heart than head. I feel a good defensive effort by the team will be something to lead us to victory.
