I know we’re not the only ones to have this kind of game. But it’s just pointless, and in my opinion it brings down fan and player morale to waste everybody’s time with this. Especially after the week or two we’ve had. I’d rather they just do a joint practice for a day or two against a power 5 than this nonsense.

Won't waste my time on it, that's for sure. Apparently neither will Jerry Carino, which says a lot. Next game is Sunday as far as I'm concerned.

They did their allotted two closed scrimmages with D-I teams back in October -- and I'd doubt you would see anybody willing to do one in-season. You might as well play an actual game at that point.

I'd rather they play another D-I opponent personally but at the very least it breaks up a long gap between games.

I’d rather not play and just practice. What’s the best case scenario for this game? Nobody gets hurt and the deep bench guys get some minutes? God help us if somebody gets injured

Somehow tied to hiring Asst. Coach Lowery away from Lincoln I would assume. Needed some type of cupcake between Kansas and Rutgers anyway. Nothing happens by accident.

It is an opportunity for some players that don't get many minutes to be able to develop. Just look at it as a practice and move onto Rutgers.

Unfortunately we don’t have that luxury. It’s the starters and the first off bench players who desperately need the work. Especially on FTs and lay-ups.

I don’t recall seeing these kinds of threads when we had Misericordia (and winning records) on the schedule.

As was said, use it as a working session/practice and try to get right.
When was Misericordia ever anything but an exhibition game before the official start to the season?

This is not an exhibition, this is a game that is a part of their full schedule. Counts in the win loss column historically, but will not count towards the NET metrics.

Edit: and there were plenty of complaints when Willard recently scheduled Nyack.

If you want technicalities, we played New Haven after a Wagner game in 2018. In 2019 we played a pair of exhibitions. Not sure that this matters all that much.

And the last thing this team is worried about is NET. We should be happy to get a get well game.

I remember that New Haven game it was weird timing. Forgot the technicalities around the scheduling on that one as there would have been an 8 day layoff between the Wagner game and Nebraska.

For the record it didn’t help tune up anything. Got shellacked at Nebraska by 23.

And no one is complaining that we play exhibitions. Closed door scrimmages have kind of replaced those. But we used to play exhibitions all the time against teams like Marathon Oil.

This is NOT an exhibition on paper. It’s an actual game against a Non - D1 school in the middle of the schedule. IT COUNTS.

The normal debate is you get a tune up game that doesn’t count against your NET vs a low major D1 game that could help your NET but also hurt your SOS. And regardless of either scenario above it’s essentially a lose lose scenario in a year that you’re trying to compete for an NCAA bid. The win really doesn’t do anything.

The only thing I would say to the season ticket holders is that this game is not being forced into your ticket allotment as a cost. These should be the types of student only campus games that we promote.

Why are we playing this? Probably because we poached their HC?

It’s pointless. You want to work on things? Do it in a game that counts where you can help your NET, which we DESPERATELY need after the blow-outs we’ve endured already. When was the last time Seton Hall had a NET or metric in the #120’s at any point in a season? Whew.

This is all risk, no reward IMO.

Maybe we can start a thread complaining that it is only on FS2, losing exposure from the “national” audience that would have tuned in if it was on the typical FS1 broadcast coverage.

I thought of this when I first saw the thread. I’ve been a diehard Pirates fan for such a long time that I remember tuning into those Marathon Oil games on the radio with interest. Guess it was back when I had such hope for some of those teams that I couldn’t get enough. I have zero interest in this game and count me in for thinking it’s a waste putting this on the schedule.

Something feels off about this season in a lot of ways. I’ll always support us, try to be patient and hope for a better future but my expectations for this season are very tempered and enthusiasm has seriously waned. It’s a strange and different feeling.

Personally, I'd rather play this game that doesn't impact NET than a 250+ D1 team that hurts our NET regardless of how much we win by. And with the losing streak, I think it comes at a pretty good time. Treat it as a scrimmage/practice, use it to work on things and get ready for Rutgers. Not unwelcome considering we haven't been healthy enough to play 5 on 5 in actual practices.

A countable win would help even as the NET might get hurt.

Playing Lincoln isn’t helping anyone get ready for Rutgers.

Playing Lincoln is, as Sha likes to say, a PAB move.

We heard a lot about how disappointed Shaheen was that Kevin wouldn't play SPU while he was coach there. Also, how he wants to play the NJ schools.

So let's play a non D-I team from PA.

It's no worse than playing Central Connecticut, for example. A "countable win" against a cupcake is still irrelevant. Just call it what it is, a glorified open practice.

I don’t see how this can help the team get ready for Sunday. I think an Inter squad scrimmage would be more meaningful. Besides working on your psyche by beating down an overmatched opponent, I don’t see the need.

The big East regular season actually starts tomorrow for Sju and DePaul, we have no need for this game.

Big take-away from this game: will walk-ons have names on their jerseys?

It's obvious Sha has a take-all-comers mentality. he is building his team. I really have high hopes for him. But my major worry is his recruiters. Can't get NIL players? Then get lower level and play them up

Wasn’t he the principal?
