He speaks. Can be found on Zags site. fwiw. Have not listened but they say he comments on Gordon.

AH Zags.. If anyone notices when Willard says if Delgado and Whitehead can get to the NBA after next he says if they do we would have had a great year. Zags chuckles and quickly says you said that last year and moves on, nice ZIng!

Hahaha, well played!

How about this little douzy?

Adam Zagoria ‏@AdamZagoria 8m8 minutes ago
Kevin Willard on Gibbs/ Sina transferring: "Some guys can handle [the pressure] and some guys can't."
Gibbs and Sina camps seem like the types that will keep themselves above the fray as opposed to commenting to something like this. I really wish they would drop some nuggets though, especially since it appears Willard is throwing them under the bus.

Seems like the same quote of being able to handle the pressure or not could be said for Willard. Thus far he's an epic fail in handling pressure/adversity.

So then if both Delgado and Whitehead play up to a level that garners enough attention by NBA scouts to leave next year and are drafted by the NBA, you're (setonball46 and Piratz) telling us that SHU BB will have a bad season. I don't know what they are snorting but if IW and AD play to that level I believe SH BB will have a pretty good season.

It's a very weird thing to say. I thought one of two things immediately:
1) he was misquoted or the words just came out poorly...i.e. we don't have all the context
2) he knows the end may be near, is saying "screw it" and is gonna go down guns blazing. My uninformed guess is that he wasn't happy with the way Gibbs left/Gibbs' family involvement, but who knows. Some things are better left unsaid...

Never a dull moment. I cringe when Willard speaks. Clearly doesn't think before he speaks. Artie's assessment sums it up!

He's never going to be a great interview and you can count on him just saying the wrong thing at some point in the interview . As an example when asked about the impact on local recruiting from Gibbs and Sina's departure he pointed out he had 6 kids on the roster from NY and forgot to note that Ish is on the roster from NJ. A more savvy coach would have said he had 7 players from NY and NJ.

Some of you are simply pathetic at this point. I don't want Willard here anymore either but constantly ragging on everything he does or does not do is getting old. As for Gibbs and Sina, they are not angels by any stretch. By the way, there was an incident down in Washington today...Willard's fault I'm sure.

A birdie told me the Gibbs camp told him he was absolutely staying until the bitter end so yes my guess is he is not thrilled with how it went down but he did wish them well.

should have heard him at the Senior Athlete Banquet. Coaches for the other sports call each player up individually and commented on a personal level something nice about them. The women's volleyball coach commented that she didn't think that one player liked volleyball and it took her a while to figure the player out. She stated once she did that, the player turned out to be a real contributor to the team. Willard called all three seniors up at the same time and in a nutshell, said he liked the guys and they were actually graduating. He did not say one thing on a personal level about them. It was obvious he didn't know them! Pitiful. BTW Gibbs was not present.

what happened?

Gotta the love the irony here. The biggest win of Willard's entire career ended with a clutch late 3 by Sina and a step-back buzzer beater by Gibbs. I think they "handle pressure" just fine.

Save Continental-Please listen to interview again. No way did KW diss SG or JS in his comment. In fact he wished them well. When the conversation turned to NY players staying home to play for St Johns or SH he said some players can handle the pressure of playing here and some cannot. My take was that he was referring to having friends and family around all the time.

All the negative comments are from the same posters constantly. The interview was very informative. Not sure what you are all looking for

I didn't listen to the interview. Which is why my first point was that maybe it was taken out of context/misquoted. Adam Zagoria is the one who tweeted the quote as I posted it, not me.

When Gonzo was fired there was considerable debate on what were the important elements that we should look for in our next coach and I added my comments that we needed a coach who was media savvy and media friendly and knew how to use the media to the program's advantage.

If you think about our last three head coaches none were media friendly or media savvy. Orr was an introvert and was never comfortable dealing with the media; BG was at war with the majority of the media and his relationship with the media hurt the program; and KW is not a great interview.

BayonneRay listen to the interview before you comment on my post.. I was calling zags a clown..Its amazing the amount of posters who will comment on something without reading the article/podcast/video it pertains too.

I actually thought it was a pretty good interview with some decent tidbits. And he was more than complimentary towards Gibbs and Sina considering they both jumped ship without warning. I'm as down on Willard as anyone but you have to really be bending over backwards to criticize him after this interview IMO.

Ah, Kevin... The hits keep coming. The white guys who can't shoot from a few years back is still my favorite. Hilarious!

Some people here should apply for a job with a tabloid. You' re good at manufacturing stories that don't exist.

No matter what you invent about Willard, it's undeniable that it's uncanny how much bad luck he's had with injuries to key players. Let's pray it does not happen again.

If you listen to the entire interview you can tell that Willard went out of his way to be positive and to compliment SHU.

Willard said they're looking for another game, possibly in Brooklyn. I hope it's with a basketball power.

Good interview, Willard had many positive comments about Seton Hall University.

"Luck is the residue of design" Lombardi

This coach's biggest shortcoming is that he can't anticipate. He doesn't ask himself the "what if" questions about anything. From recruiting, to injuries, to off the court problems , to defections, to on court situations. .

I hope he acquits himself well and brings credit to the University until he leaves next spring.

Pirate 64-I want KW and the kids to succeed-do you? Highest GPA for team in recent times. IW on dean's list. Every game next year BA and law school will be front and center. Flash will be a credit to university. Veer is a great talent. Carter, Ish and Nzei young athletic talented guys who will be fun to watch grow in front us. Add our core group and the future is not to bad. If you want to bad mouth the program every chance you get find another hobby.

Gibbs couldnt handle the pressure? Gibbs bailed out willards ass more times than i can count. on the biggest stages too.

willard is a boy, a child. he is a coward. he has no guts. he has no balls. hes a loser. he would gladly let someone else take the bullet. ive ripped off scabs tougher than him. ive seen turds go down with more valor.

and get this, i didnt even read the interview!

Willard says odd thing each year which makes me think that he is an awful coach, but I have to assume that tweet was taken out of proper context.

That's really funny, SEEING AS IT ISN'T A PRINT INTERVIEW, IT'S A FULL RECORDED INTERVIEW!!!

Zags may have done a real hack job tweeting that quote like that, it was not really a diss at Gibbs and Sina, he was actually quite complimentary to both.

The interview though is really just a puff-piece, typical coaches' speak, everyone is great, B/S interview most all college basketball coaches are wont to give.

Shuathelete. I listened to your last post and it sounded like all your other posts! LOL

The fact I offered that little tidbit about reading the interview should have given the hint about the nature of my post.

C'mon guys. There was nothing wrong with that interview. Nothing at all.

In fact I thought Willard did as good a job handling the questions as he has done in quite some time.

He answered everything clearly and with vision. He was honest and at no time did he ever duck anything with coaches speak.

Love him or not is your choice. But to criticize him re this interview is ridiculous and reeks of an agenda.

A question. I have been told that Zagoria made questionable comments since deleted about Willard on his site that were challenged by some and Zagoria then changed them in his article after the original posting. Since that is no longer available to read as there is actually hockey feedback under the Willard story (bad editing job) can anyone shed some light?

Now I see how this got blown out of context. I was guilty of not listening to the interview and seeing the tweet on the board. I talked to my brother who is a St. John's alum and friends with one of the new St. John's coaches before the Rangers game last night, he explained to me since I'm clueless, that the journalist in question is sloppy and reverts to near harassment to get his story up and bean count his site. Not even worth a grain of salt. My brother had an interesting note about SHU which came from his friend at SJU. One of the SHU coaches was very high on Lovett. My brother said Myles Carter will be starting at SHU come BE play.

There literally nothing objectionable in the interview. KW directly answered the questions and was very upbeat. It is clear that he knows that this is a huge year for him and the program.

I don't care what he says at this point. It really doesn't matter anymore. Just be in charge of a fine tuned team that wins lots of games. Try that------- just once.

The 69 Mets happened and so did the 88 SHU Pirates. I know what has happened over the past kw years and will spend this summer and fall thinking things are gonna change. Why? Because I can.

Your point is well taken. But you have to start somewhere. Willard did not always come off well in interviews in the past. Especially last year as the season progressed.

Clearly he is refreshed now and just as clearly he has been told to work with the media and project a positive image. He has done that with both Carino's and Zagoria's interviews.

Maybe a small step but in this his hot seat year it is a good start.

A reader who does not post sent me this in an email. I can't verify it because I never saw the original story before it was partially deleted. If anyone did please correct this info or verify it.

This was the tweet before it was deleted:

Kevin Willard on Gibbs/ Sina transferring: "Some guys can handle [the pressure] and some guys can't."

If you listen to the podcast , Willard's comment came at the end of a long-winded answer about recruiting New York and New Jersey area guys. Zagoria had asked him about how their departure would impact recruiting.

It's a stretch to say Willard was referring to those guys. Any decent journalist would have presented the entire question and response and let readers draw their own conclusions.

I read the comments above which made it sound like he was putting his foot in his mouth. After listening, I agree that it was a solid(For Willard) interview. Zags continues to prove what a terrible writer he is lol
