I have said this a few times on the site this year but I think it bears repeating. As Raftery even said last night during the telecast, "Pitino said Kevin Willard is the best assistant coach he has ever had"... I have no doubt that Willard is a tremendous assistant coach. He should go back to being an assistant coach as he has proven he doesn't have what it takes to be the head guy. There is absolutely no shame in that. In the NFL there are a lot of great coaches who excel as OC/DC's but are terrible head coaches. Happens in business as well, some guys are real leaders/motivators, others are good tacticians and character guys.

well said.....

Willard reminds me a lot of Norm Roberts. Roberts is now an assistant under Self at Kansas. Eerily similiar records in the Big East too.

Full disclosure - I work in the business field and I fall into the latter category myself. I am a good guy to work with and have on your team, but realize I am not the leader type and I am perfectly fine with that and have carved out a nice career thus far. No shame in it at all imo.

"The world needs ditch diggers too Danny"...LOL

Good post. And if he saved his SHU money he is financially set too. So not bad for a young guy all in all.

I think Seton Hall fell for what Pitino said 5 years ago that Willard was the best X and O assistant that he ever had. SHU is in bad shape now but at least your team has talent. RU has ended the season with 15 straight losses. I wish we could see some light at the end of the tunnel but I still can't see any.

whenever KW is finally let go, he will not be a head coach anywhere. He will 100% go back to being an assistant somewhere for a real leader, a la Norm Roberts. Maybe not at such a lofty perch such as Kansas, but still an assistant.

Isn't it completely stunning that KW isnt fired as of today? Any real program would have blown out this guy already. sad.

There is an old line, that "never make your best salesman your sales manager".

Not saying Kevin is a great salesman, but you can be a good assistant and it doesn't necessarily translate. He wouldn't be the first.
