Woj story NYT

A great article in depth about what it will take to compete in the NIL/free agency world of college hoops.

We should have a GM. Would be more valuable than a 4th Assistant Coach and take a massive load off of Sha's plate.

1- Scouting potential portal targets year-round that fit our coach and budget, not wasting time on guys we cant afford.

2- Scouting and working contacts in Europe and Africa to find players.

3- Negotiating payments and making offers to agents.

4- Building a team within our budget

5- Re-recruiting our own players during the season.

6- Learning the marketplace, what other teams are doing, going rates for players

7- Handling media and fan communication and improving SH's public perception.

8- Primary communicator for Onward Setonia to fanbase. Building fan relationships through honest dialogue

9- Visiting with & developing large donors

10- Working with McBride and Felt on raising revenue through scheduling.

Completely agree on all accounts. Unfortunately, Sha is an egomaniac and will never cede any control in any part of the program

Per Carino, it sounds like Andrew Francis' role on our staff will be as de facto GM.
Just listened to his podcast. Says Pikeill needs a GM. He does. Then says Francis will be relied upon to find players in the Portal and perform some tasks of a GM. I hope he's right. But other than scouting/recruiting, I don't know if Francis has the background and skills to do all of the other tasks I listed.

He has not had any success recruiting in the NIL era. His last 5 years he's had 5 straight losing seasons (52-115 overall) at FGCU and Cal. Sounds like he has some contacts and is an old-school relationship kind of guy. Hopefully he'll help us but I still believe we need a GM.
