March 24, 2015
Coming off his first season at the helm for the Pirates, Seton Hall women's soccer head coach Rick Stainton has announced a loaded class featuring 10 student-athletes that have signed on to join the program for the 2015 campaign.
Eight of the 10 signees hail from New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Connecticut as The Hall continues to strengthen recruiting ties within the talent-rich surrounding area while Stainton and his staff also secured a pair of commitments from a duo that boasts experience within their respective national team systems.
Five New Jersey natives are set to represent the Pirates as Sophia Duffy (Freehold, N.J.), Tanika Roach (Somerset, N.J.), Emily Rimdzius (Cherry Hill, N.J.), Julia Stirpe (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and Delaney Suarez (Bergenfield, N.J.) will don the Seton Hall shirt next fall.
Taylor Cutcliff (Springfield, Pa.) and Lauren Dao (Collegeville, Pa.) are also headed to South Orange from the Keystone State while All-State forward Lauren Garcia (Westfield, Conn.) will make the trip after leading Staples to a conference championship in the fall.
Fresh off a star turn for Mexico at the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup and a state title run with Bishop Lynch, Eva Gonzalez (Mesquite, Texas) will step into the Seton Hall midfield while Anna MacLean (Thunder Bay, Ontario) will compete for time between the posts after establishing herself as one of the premier youth goalkeepers in Canada.
The well-rounded group includes one goalkeeper and three defenders that are poised to join a unit that surrendered one goal or less 13 times in 18 appearances in the fall as well as six more newcomers that will provide support up top and in the midfield.
"This class will help us improve in a number of areas," explained Stainton. "We are very pleased with the roster we have returning and the experience they have gained has only made our more ambitious. Adding the incoming class will provide us a tremendous boost and allow us to introduce a new dynamic in the attack."
"This helps in our progression," he added. "We plan to be competitive in the BIG EAST Conference and contend for a championship. This class is another step towards that goal. Our squad will be that much more competitive in all environments. We will have a wealth of options, in all positions, when it is time to go up against other teams as well."
In addition to decorated prep careers, five members of the incoming class plied their trade on the Elite Club National League (ECNL) level, thriving against some of the top amateur competition in the country.

Stainton on Delaney Suarez ..."Delaney will be another attacking presence for us who plays very well with her back to goal. She is very refined tactically and is skilled technically. She will create opportunities in the build-up for us and because she reads the game so well. She will also be a constant threat around the goal for us."
