World Cup Hoops Final: Serbia vs Germany

It is very impressive what Colangelo and K did as a program. 1 international loss in that era.

Grant Hill and Kerr need to look and roster build for Paris because that group as is will not win gold. Because WC is now year prior to Olympics in this country I don't feel the players see it as prestigious as an Olympics.

Didn’t we finish 9th in 2019?

Btw, I agree with you that I don’t think the players or NBA folks care about this as much as the Olympics. And it’s probably not even close. Of course they are competitors who want to win. But I think part of this is viewed as part of the process towards forming the best team in pursuit of Olympic Gold.

Personally I don’t care much about this event even though I’m a huge hoops fan generally and enjoy the NBA. But I want us winning the gold in the Olympics.

United States ousted by Germany in World Cup shocker

By Jonathan Lehman

The United States, the heavyweights of international basketball, has been knocked out of the FIBA World Cup.

Call this the Illa in Manila.

The Steve Kerr-led Americans were stunned by Germany, 113-111, in the semifinals of the World Cup on Friday in The Philippines.

The Americans trailed 106-94 with 5:24 to play before mounting a comeback that came up just short. Anthony Edwards and Austin Reaves led a 13-2 run to pull within one point.

But then Germany’s Andreas Obst nailed a corner 3 and Dennis Schroder hit a jumper to hand the U.S. its latest international disappointment.

Edwards paced the Americans with 23 while Reaves chipped in 21. Knicks star Jalen Brunson provided 15 points and seven assists, but was on the bench during crunch time.

Obst led Germany with 24 points. The Magic’s Franz Wagner added 22 and the Pacers’ Daniel Theis had 21.

The U.S. will face Canada on Sunday for the bronze medal.

The Americans last won the tournament in 2014. In 2019, they were knocked out by France in the quarterfinals.

This wasn't anywhere close to a roster we'd expect to send to the Olympics, right? It does make you question lower level players in the NBA vs international mid to higher level players. I think this is proving that there's more misses on NBA talent evaluation as you go down the chain than they would like to believe.

Unproven and thin in the bigs area this competition. Also not having ingram available vs germany hurt...however the scheme and scope played into the european teams' pace.

Haliburton
Bridges
Edwards
Brunson
Hart
Reaves

Half the roster...too much high ball screen then create vs principled offense

This was a build for the future roster but it's was very flawed. Need to improve/overhaul the interior. At least 1 or 2 of Jarrett Allen/Evan Mobley/Bam Adebayo/Mitch Robinson needs to be on the roster among with Jaren Jackson to shore up the post and rebounding. Kessler can also be that guy but he played not nearly enough to have a proper opinion on him. PGs like Haliburton and Brunson are essential but they need the right pieces around them. Edwards wants to be Kobe but he's not there yet (in terms of role, not overall). Too many tweener forwards when you might have to go.old school with solidified positions.

US and Canada can make up this effort when the Olympics come next year. They better. 2 best teams on paper top to bottom

The gap has closed enough where an international team of a few NBA/former NBA role players plus some veteran international players can beat the NBA's "D-squad" on given day. And I'm not diminishing that, because 25-30 years ago that wasn't the case.
