Wow 2nd recruit

Double Wow ! Getting a quality big answers a critical need for Sha and his program and I don’t mind admitting it came out of the blue to me.

Let’s slow down. Dalembert was a top 30 recruit his senior year. Why don’t we wait until our recruits actually get here and play a little before making comparisons to our great former players.
What is Samuel doing these days? Could he come in and give a clinic?

Seems like a comparison to Dalembert.
Nowhere close to Dalembert. This kid is 6’9”. Sam was solid 7’. Sam was also a dominant defensive player. This kid can score around the rim but his defense at least the 1 game I just watch will need work. Good get but Sam he’s not.

Assuming both took a decent amount of NIL, based on their ranking. Not knowing how the process works, when does/can actual payment(s) start? Are there any guidelines (probably not)? I doubt we or anyone is handing out IOU’s.

I was thinking the same... Looks like a positive reflection to all we've heard/read about the NIL situation improving. A great start to the 2024 recruiting class to get two good players early, both in positions of need.

4-star C Godswill Erheriene commits to Seton Hall

by:Joe Tipton

Godswill Erheriene, a four-star center in the 2024 class, has committed to Seton Hall.
The 6-9, 225-pound senior out of Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.) ultimately chose the Pirates over offers from Georgia Tech, Maryland, St. Bonaventure, St. John’s, and others.
“Seton Hall fits what I’m looking for at the next level,” Erheriene said to On3. “The style of play, the way they utilize their interior player, that’s something I do really well. I believe I would become the best basketball player I can be playing under Coach Halloway and the coaches have all the resources I need to develop my skills and reach my full potential.”
In his own words, what type of player is Seton Hall getting in Godswill Erheriene?
“I’m a post player, play of the playmaker spot, defender, rebounder, and most importantly I play to win.”

He has a message for Seton Hall fans.
“For the Pirate fans, I’m thrilled to be a part of the Seton Hall family. I’m looking forward to working hard, improving my game, and making Pirate Nation a championship team. I’m excited to play in front of them. I can’t wait to step on the floor and represent Seton Hall with pride and honor. Go Pirates 🏴‍☠️”

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Erheriene is the No. 124 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. He’s also the No. 18 center prospect and the No. 7 player in New York. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evalutors are higher on him, ranking him 108th nationally.

2024 Godswill Erheriene on his development and recruitment

Colby Giacubeno August 29, 2023 @ 12:25 PM

It didn’t take long at the Will Barton Elite Camp for 2024 big man Godswill Erheriene to establish himself as the most dominant big in attendance. He used every big of his 6-foot-9 frame to establish position in the paint and make himself available for entry passes, rebounds at both ends or altering shots around the rim.

Prep Hoops caught up with the Nigerian native to discuss the latest in his recruitment.

“My recruitment has been pretty quiet lately, I do have a few schools talking to me, though. Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Seton Hall and UMass are the ones that I hear from most. I’ve had some interest from Oregon and some other mid-major schools.”

Eheriene has intentions on visiting all four schools that he mentioned above who are actively recruiting him. Dates have yet to be solidified.

Playing for Long Island Lutheran in the NIBC last season helped with Erheriene’s development, but there certainly were aspects that he had to become comfortable with.

“Playing in that league, it was an adjustment for me. I just tried to contribute in whatever way that I could to help, but this year I feel like I’ll take on a bigger role from what coach has told me. I really want to be one of the guys that my team can depend on.”

“I have to be a captain and more of a leader this year. I have to be more vocal and have a mindset of being dominant. We lost a lot of good guys from last year, but we added a lot of guys, so we just need to perform in order to get back to GEICO.”

It seemed like the mindset that Erheriene mentioned is already taking form into his game. Throughout the day of camp, he tried to dunk any touch that he had in the paint. When he wasn’t tearing the rim down, he was converting soft touch hooks over his left shoulder or earning second-chance points for his squad. He set punishing screens, pursued rebounds out of his area and his presence alone was enough to make opposing guards think twice.

“My game has gone a long way since I arrived at LuHi. The coaches and the trainers have made me a lot better. I’ve become more physical, more composed and more confident.”

There are a few players that Erheriene watches film of on a regular basis to implement more into his game.

“I watch a lot of Joel Embiid. He’s a really good post-up player, but also very skilled for his size. He can do it from every area.”

Eheriene made the move to the United States a year ago. One thing that fascinates me about prospects who come from different countries is their motivation for playing the game.

“Just being the best. I have goals for myself, so I’m trying to obtain those goals. My family back home. My brother plays basketball back home in Nigeria, so just showing him what is possible. Knowing that I’m over here in the United States playing basketball is huge, but I know that I have to do this for myself and my family. If I’m able to obtain my goals, I’ll be able to take care of my family.”

67, thinks he's old alum! And, thanksfor that!!

Godswill's message to us got to me like Jared's commit video. Excellent.

When do you ever hear that a kid wants to play for his upcoming school with "pride and honor." Love that!

Love that he wants to dunk every touch that he gets in the paint, and also has a soft touch hook. Great combo!

Really looking forward to seeing him in Pirate blue!

We've had an epidemic of players who don't want to/can't dunk. Love when someone wants to dunk everything. Reminds me of Desi's mindset - just hopefully not as reckless lol

That is a welcome change. We need bigs to finish strong as opposed to the Billmeier bigs we’ve had flipping weak prayers at the rim.
