Xavier Box Score

Three straight games of 71% free throws percentage or above. I'm not saying that's necessarily good, I think it would be middle of the pack in the country. But at least not one of the worst in division one - for three games at least.

Now if only we could see some improvement with the layups. Some of these layup misses blow my mind.

Only one of our bigs made more than one shot (Walden, two)
Only one of our bigs attempted more than two shots (Aligbe, three)
None of them got more than three rebounds
None of them scored more than four points

You look at this box score and wonder why we can’t get our high percentage shooters more damn shots.
Take out Godswill's 64% on 17 shots and Middleton is our best shooting at 45%.

Coleman at around 43% took 20 of our 61 shots and he forced a number of them.

We're a terrible offensive team for many reasons:

1. We don't have a PG and are playing guys out of position there who are terribly turnover prone.

2. We are constantly flipping the lineups and player rotations around EVERY SINGLE GAME. It's insane. There is absolutely no flow because of it. This is happening because Sha is trying to corral 10 new players into his style of playing hard in practice and most of them are bucking him.

3. Our best 4 offensive players do not play together enough (Coleman, Middleton, Jenkins and Felton).

4. Our possessions are train wrecks as we pound the ball into the floor and then scramble. We never get an entry pass into the post. We rarely drive-and-kick. Nobody moves and we rarely pass. How many different commentators pinpoint this?

5. We play this painfully slow tempo which is making it worse yet also have a turnover problem which negates he point of playing slow! It also allows the defense to pack the lane because we don't take 3's despite having some players who can hit them. But to do that you need to have flow and pass and free them up (see point above).

6. And above all that, the players we have just aren't skilled enough. Watch Aligbe try to make moves with the ball. We've watched Addae-Wusu for years, he's a terrible ball handler. Jenkins should be a catch-and-shoot guy but without a PG he's trying to drive the ball too much. Should we talk about Toumi? LOL

What disappointed most was the lack of effort. The players weren’t even trying to play together. Chaunce was forcing up shots left and right. Coleman a little as well. They look like they could care less and are only focused on getting their shots up. Do they also not realize they are being paid to play basketball. I have seen people with way harder jobs being paid substantially less give more effort. Just a disaster all around. I think Coach has lost the team. This is not just an NIL issue. There needs to be a total change about how we evaluate players. You can miss on a few players but not the majority of the roster. You know why Bediako worked out so well. He came from a winning program and showed improvement. Manny, Prince, Toumi, Jenkins, Scotty(they did improve down the line), Zion all came from teams that had poor seasons. You can’t build an entire roster with players like that. You take out whatever we are paying Manny, Prince, Toumi that’s probably enough for a serviceable big. Maybe you don’t take back Wusu or spend on Zion, and Garwey that money probably gets you a PG. You fill in the rest with whomever you can afford but at least you have a decent starting lineup.
