I certainly understand the significance of Judge's home run chase to the Yankee fans on the board, but I've got to think most baseball fans have their eyes more focused on another one:

Does Albert Pujols reach 700?

The resurgence he's had this year to even put it within reach has already been incredible at his age.

Yes*

As in, something tells me he won't do it this year and he'll come back as a veteran bat off the bench/DH next year for some team

I HOPE SO! He was a great presense for the Dodgers last year and nice to see him back in St L and kicking some ass.

I agree with your thinking but he has said repeatedly -- even after his recent hot streak -- that he is retiring after this season regardless of if he reaches 700 HRs.

His plan was to return to St. Louis for one year and walk hand in hand into the sunset with his friend Yadier. Maybe Waino joins them but I've a feeling he is coming back for another season.

Would love to see Albert get there. One of the best first basemen of all time and just made a bad move going to Anaheim.

He is a perfect example that everyone is human—including and especially athletes—and stats don’t always translate.

If he ends up at 699... I think he wants to grab it and walk off

Also, what are people's thoughts on the postseason stats not counting towards career totals? Agree with it? Think they should count? He'd already be well over 700 home runs if they did.

That wouldn't surprise me but I also don't think he would stay just long enough to get one home run.

Where's Denny McClain when you need him?
According to his Wikipedia page, Pinckney, Michigan.

I would have taken odds he would have been in jail somewhere. For those that don't know, there's a joke in there somewhere.

Another question: you're pitching for the Pirates in St. Louis on the list day of the season with Albert sitting at 699. No playoff implications as the Cards' spot is locked in and the Pirates are obviously out of it. Are you giving him a steady diet of belt high fastballs?
