Hope we've seen the last of that. These kids can get in your face and D up!!!

No reason any of our top 7 need to play zone. Ever.

In your face NYC/Essex/Union county ball.

None of that zone stuff.

Trying to find a negative? Just kidding garyshu71- LOL!

BTW, obviously, a game situation fouls, etc. might dictate playing a zone defense for a while however, we are a very strong in-your-face defense.

Interesting...having a t-shirt made up in morristown that says we start 9 players on defense 4 sophomores and 5 ishs... how many of that kid we re out there cause I know I saw 3 or 4 of him at least twice ... fabulous effort...Marquette you've been ish'd

I hate zone defenses. Anyone who has read my posts in the last 9 years knows that. But you do need the zone at times depending on match-ups, foul trouble and rest issues.

Plus at times you need to give the opponent a different look, Even if just for a short time, or just once coming out of a time out.

That said, the man to man will take this team as far as it can go.

One other thing. I got crucified mostly on the Trove this year for calling Willard a stellar defensive (not offensive) coach.

IMO early in his career at SHU he was. But then in recent years with players like Sina, Gibbs, Teague and Mobley to name a few he didn't have the horses on that side of the ball. But now he does and he has gone back to his bread and butter doing what he does best. Teaching defense.

We had foul problems but Willard managed around them and stayed in the man. We have a lot of players who can help out.

And that's why Gary he can play M/M.

You need a bench to go 40 all out minutes playing a man. Sometimes KW goes to the bench early, maybe too early in the minds of many. But if you're going to play intense M/M defense you're going to have to rely on your subs.

My only issue is not the subbing, but the mass substitutions. I think that often disrupts the flow of our game.

But hell, I'm on the sidelines watching. Willard is the coach of the 11-2 Pirates.

Totally agree Dan that the zone is a necessary evil sometimes for us. Since we have real no guard depth, I could see the matchup coming out if IW, KC, or DG has foul troubles.

And Dan after the first few games, your comment on the defense being stellar was a head scratcher, but the last few it looks very prophetic. I wonder if the change has a lot more to do with Gordon looking more like a all-American defender the past few games, to go with Ish, who has to be in the very early running for BE defensive player of the year.

Let's see how we do against Bill Garret on Saturday. Will be a good test for our guards.
