St. John’s Announces Change to Men’s Basketball Roster

Adonis De La Rosa Released From Scholarship

QUEENS, N.Y. (April 21, 2015) – St. John’s has released men’s basketball freshman center Adonis De La Rosa from his scholarship effective at the conclusion of the spring semester. The University has granted De La Rosa permission to pursue transfer opportunities with other NCAA member institutions.

“Adonis has been released from the men’s basketball program,” said Director of Athletics Chris Monasch. “He has been granted permission to contact other schools and plans to transfer to another institution.”

I'll bet Iona will be all over this one.

Also, 6-10 Manny Suarez of Cliffside Park (and Marist High School) is transferring from Fordham.

Adonis might still have eligibility issues. His brother will also transfer. SJU roster is really flipping lately. Mullin building different style team totally. Look for SJU to make strong run at SF Malik Ellison, Pervis Ellison's son.

Some folks on the Rutgers board are ticked re St. John's late run at Ellison, as Pervis seemingly liked the idea of his son playing for Jordan. Chris Mullin and staff are everywhere!

Saw De La Rosa play last year. Like I noted then IMO he's nowhere close to being a Big East player. Needed to get in better shape and play harder when he was on the court.

The open ship will suit Mullin better.

Its fairly obvious that the SJU staff has great relationships with so many top HS and AAU programs and with many individual players that it allows them to quickly become involved with both the uncommitted players in this class and with the large number of transfers still out there. So much of recruiting success is based on the relationships you build and your connections with the programs that continuously produce the high quality player. The great way to start a program under a new coach is to bring in assistants who has those connections and SJU has done that and it's showing already.
