PREVIEW
Seton Hall finished the regular season last week by winning two of three games against Georgetown at Owen T. Carroll Field to clinch a berth in the 2015 BIG EAST Championship in Omaha, Neb. Seton Hall got strong pitching throughout the weekend, started by Shane McCarthy on Thursday. The freshman pitched 6.1 innings and didn't allow an earned run in Seton Hall's walk-off 2-1 victory. D.J. Ruhlman drove home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Sam Burum picked up his third victory of the season in relief. Game one of Friday's double-header featured one of the most miraculous ninth inning comebacks in Seton Hall history. Trailing 5-2 with two outs in the ninth and the bases empty, five straight Pirates reached base. Ryan Ramiz' single and a subsequent Georgetown error tied the game at five and Chris Chiaradio's ensuing RBI single sent Seton Hall to its second straight walk-off victory. Coupled with Xavier's victory over Butler and The Hall clinched a berth in the conference tournament regardless of the outcome of the second game of the double-header. In that game, Georgetown won, 5-2, to also earn a place in the conference tournament despite losing the series.
ELIA, GRIMM, WEIGEL ALL-CONFERENCE
Seniors Anthony Elia and Kyle Grimm as well as junior Zack Weigel were named to the 2015 All-BIG EAST Second Team on Tuesday. Grimm receives All-Conference honors for a second straight year as he was named to the First Team in 2014. Elia and Weigel are receiving post-season conference honors for the first time.
MCCARTHY PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Freshman Shane McCarthy was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday. McCarthy was instrumental in the Pirates' walk-off 2-1 victory over Georgetown on Thursday. The right-hander pitched 6.1 innings and didn't give up an earned run, while striking out four batters and walking only one. McCarthy allowed only three hits as Seton Hall took game one of a crucial regular season-ending series with the Hoyas. It was McCarthy's first start since April 26.
MIRACULOUS COMEBACK - WALK-OFF #2
In game one of Friday's double-header vs. Georgetown, the Pirates trailed the Hoyas, 5-2, with two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the ninth. Sal Annunziata walked, Tyler Boyd hit a double, Alex Falconi singled, Ryan Ramiz singled, and with the aid of a Hoya error, drove in the tying run, and Chris Chiaradio singled to score the winning run in a dramatic 6-5 victory.
WALK-OFF #1
On Thursday vs. Georgetown with the game knotted at one, Kyle Grimm led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to left field and advanced to second when Sal Annunziata was hit by a pitch. Jackson Martin pinch ran for Grimm and tagged up and moved to third on a fly ball by Tyler Boyd. D.J. Ruhlman followed with a game-winning RBI single to give Seton Hall a 2-1 victory. It was Ruhlman's first game back after missing five games following an emergency appendectomy on May 2.
