Indianapolis, Ind. — Junior Rachel Gerrie (Littleton, Colo.) scored the equalizing goal in the 63rd minute to help the Seton Hall women's soccer team scrape a BIG EAST point on the road at Butler, 2-2, on Thursday evening.

Junior Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) opened the scoring with her BIG EAST leading 12th goal of the season. Gerrie's equalizer was the first goal of her career.

The Pirates (6-6-5, 2-3-4 BIG EAST) picked up a point in the conference standings, giving them 10 for the season. The Hall's 10 points are its most since 2011, which was also the last time the Pirates made the BIG EAST Tournament.

With one game remaining, the Pirates sit in sixth place in the conference standings, two points ahead of Marquette and Butler. The top six teams qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament. Seton Hall is idle on Sunday and will return to action at Owen T. Carroll Field for its season finale against UConn at 6 p.m.

How It Happened

Butler controlled possession through the first 20 minutes of the game as they got off six shots to the Pirates' two attempts. But as the Bulldogs were possessing on their own end of the pitch, the Pirates pressed and senior Skyler Matusz (Kearny, N.J.) broke up a pass and got the ball to Tavana, who turned, took one dribble, and sent a missile from 20 yards out to the top right corner of the goal.

However, the Bulldogs would equalize two minutes later and would tally again in the 35th minute to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room. The Pirates still trailed by 2-1 entering the 63rd minute when Tavana drew a foul just before midfield. Junior Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany) stepped up to take the free kick and it landed at the feet of senior Maille McDermott (Nashua, N.H.), who then flicked it back in the air to Gerrie running down the far side. Gerrie gathered the ball and chipped it over the goalkeeper's head to the tie the score up at 2-2.
