Happy Birthday to Lou Carnesecca!

There are birthday parties, and then there are birthday parties.
This Thursday, I will be going to the birthday party of all birthday parties: the celebration of Lou Carnesecca’s 99th birthday. Everyone knows “Coach” for his Hall of Fame Basketball career at St. John’s. His 526 wins in 24 seasons are remarkable. Those numbers don’t tell the real story of Lou Carnesecca.
I have been fortunate through the years to get to know Lou, the person. He is one of the most decent and caring people I have ever met. He calls me every Thanksgiving to wish me well, and I always get a message the first of January to say “Happy New Year.”
A few years ago, he threw out a first pitch at Shea. I would like nothing more than to have him do it again this summer at Citi. All the best “ Louie.”
May he live another 99...hope his sweater is still around
