Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Golden Eagles: Marquette leads, 17-11

Earlier This Season:

Seton Hall 82, #24 Marquette 78 (F) – December 4, 2022 (Walsh Gym)

EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST MARQUETTE

Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.)
scored a game-high 31 points, and Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) added 23 more as the Pirates upset No. 24 Marquette, 82-78, on Dec. 4 at Walsh Gym.

Seton Hall put together arguably its top all-around performance of the season, out-shooting, out-rebounding and forcing more turnovers than the ranked Golden Eagles.

Park-Lane erupted for 31 points on 9-for-22 shooting from the field and a 13-for-17 mark from the free-throw line. She also dished out a game-high seven assists against just one turnover. Cooks had a highly efficient 23 points on 10-for-14 shooting to go with five rebounds. A third Pirate reached double-figures in scoring, Kae Satterfield (New York, N.Y.), had 12 points and six rebounds, and played strong basketball down the stretch, chasing down loose balls and tying up Marquette offenders.

SCOUTING MARQUETTE

Marquette is coming off a stellar 23-11 season in 2021-22, which included a 13-7 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. The fifth-seeded Golden Eagles routed fourth-seeded DePaul by 20 in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals before being bounced from the event by top-seeded UConn in the semifinals. Marquette’s season came to an end with a third-round loss to Toledo in the WNIT.

This year, the Golden Eagles were picked to finish sixth in the 11-team league according to the preseason coaches’ poll. Senior Jordan King was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. They return King and starters Liza Karlen and Chloe Marotta.

Marquette enters this weekend with an 11-7 overall record and a 4-5 mark in BIG EAST play. After a strong start, the Golden Eagles have lost five of their last seven games, albeit to strong teams, Colorado, Villanova, UConn, Creighton and St. John’s. Most recently, they fell to the Red Storm, 66-61, in Queens on Wednesday. King currently leads the team with 16.5 points per game.
