2015 SCHEDULE

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Head coach Allison Yaeger announced the 2015 Seton Hall volleyball schedule on Tuesday. The Pirates will play 31 matches overall, including 13 home matches at Walsh Gym and 18 matches as part of BIG EAST Conference play.

For a second straight year each BIG EAST team will play its nine opponents twice, in a home and away format.

The Pirates will open the season with four weekend tournaments before beginning conference play at Creighton on September 25. The first conference game is a rematch of the 2014 BIG EAST Championship game, which the Bluejays won, 3-1, in Milwaukee. Despite its loss, Seton Hall went on to earn the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.

“We’re eager to build off last year’s success,” said head coach Allison Yaeger. “This is a very competitive schedule, with some very talented competition from both in and out of the BIG EAST. It will provide a positive test for us in our quest to return to the NCAA Tournament in December.”

Seton Hall’s non-conference schedule features a step-up in competition from past years. The Pirates will face three teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season, Dayton, Hofstra and Utah, and two former BIG EAST Champions, Louisville and Notre Dame.

Last year, UNLV made the cross-country trip to South Orange for one of Seton Hall’s two home tournaments. This year, the Pirates will return the favor, opening the season at the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. The Hall will face Nebraska-Omaha on August 28, before taking on Central Arkansas and the Rebels on August 29.

The following weekend, Seton Hall will host the Seton Hall Classic in Walsh Gym. The Pirates will host former conference foe Notre Dame on Friday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m. They’ll host Hofstra, who is coming off a 28-6 season, and Temple on September 5.

Seton Hall will play three matches at the Louisville Invitational, September 11-12. The Hall will take on Ohio on Friday, and both host Louisville and Utah on Saturday. Louisville had a down year in 2014, but had made the NCAA Tournament in 14 of the 16 seasons prior. Utah was a tournament team in 2014.

In their final regular season tournament of the season, The Hall will take on Loyola on September 18, and both Cornell and Binghamton on September 19 as part of the Cornell Invitational. The Pirates swept Cornell in the Seton Hall Invitational last season.

Rounding out the non-conference schedule, the Pirates will face Dayton on November 1. The Flyers are also coming off a NCAA Tournament season and finished with a final record of 29-6.

The top four BIG EAST teams in the final regular season standings will vie for the conference championship and its automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, November 27-28, at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha. The event will be hosted by Creighton University.

Good schedule. That's the toughest schedule in many years.

It appears they will again have a very strong team. There's an excellent mix of experience and talented freshmen. However, I believe they generally lack size. That will hurt them against the top teams.

Good luck this season.

Go Pirates!
