Five-Run Eighth Keys Pirates' Comeback Win Over Saint Peter's, 7-6

Stats

South Orange, N.J. --Aiden Robbins (Yardley, Pa.) stayed hot by going 2-for-4 with three RBI including a bases-clearing, two RBI single in the eighth inning that gave the Seton Hall baseball team the lead in a 7-6 win over Saint Peter's on Wednesday afternoon at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium.

Jay Allmer (Asheville, N.C.) registered his first save of the season and he helped turn a 1-6-3 double play in ninth inning for the Pirates (10-6). Alex D'Ambrosio (Marlboro, N.J.) tossed three scoreless innings in his first career start.

How It Happened

Both sides were scoreless through the first four innings with Seton Hall putting on only three baserunners. The Peacocks struck first in the top of the fifth with a run scored on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single that gave them a 2-0 lead. The Pirates answered in the bottom half with Robbins' first RBI of the day on a double that scored Kevin Milewski (Wallingford, Conn.). Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.) tied up the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single through the left side that plated Danny Melnick (Hamilton, N.J.).

Saint Peter's took the lead back in the top of the seventh on an RBI single and it took a commanding lead after a three-run eighth inning that put the Peacocks in front, 6-2. However, the Pirates responded with a five-run home half of the eighth that put them in front for good.

Max Viera (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) started off the inning with a pinch hit single. A one-out single by Sylvester gave the Pirates runners on first and second when Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y.) cleared the bases with a two-run double down the left field line that made it a two-run game, 6-4. A walk and infield single from Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) loaded the bases for pinch hitter Nick Ferri (Flemington, N.J.), who got another run home on an RBI groundout that cut Seton Hall's deficit to one, 6-5. The next batter was Robbins who once again delivered with a single up the middle that put the Pirates in front, 7-6.

Allmer came in the ninth and walked lead-off man but helped his own cause by turning a double play for the first two outs of the inning. He ended the game with a swinging strikeout.
