St. John’s landed a commitment from Missouri State transfer Ron Mvouika on Tuesday morning.

Mvouika announced his decision on twitter.

As a junior with the Bears, Mvouika averaged 6.8 points in 18 minutes, shooting 39.7 percent from three, but due to a back injury this past season, he only managed to play in two games. Having spent his first two seasons at a Junior College in Wyoming, Mvouika will be eligible immediately for the 2015-16 season as a graduate transfer.

Mvouika, who hails from Paris, is a bigger guard at 6-foot-6, but he can play both back court positions. With D’angelo Harrison, Phil Greene and Jamal Branch graduating this year, adding a bit of versatility in the back court is important for Chris Mullin.

Like any newly hired coach, Mullin gets a bit of a recruiting pass in the spring prior to his first season. Right now he's trying to ensure that he has enough bodies to field a team. With that in mind, adding a veteran player for one year isn't a bad thing.

You can start assessing Mullin's actual recruiting next year. Right now he and his staff are mainly building relationships between student-athletes and St. John's, and doing so aggressively. He seems to be going about things the right way.
