Knicks

Thibs had a very successful 5-year run with the Knicks. He helped change the culture and had them on the precipice of making the Finals. He easily could have remained but I don't think the Knicks necessarily made a bad decision here. Its Championship or bust from now on. The key decision is who they hire and how they can address their weaknesses.

They have to change the way they play on both sides of the ball and Thibs would just be running back the same way and hoping it is enough. Brunson and Towns are the 2 franchise players but they are an imperfect pair on both ends of the floor. Both are below average defenders and they both tend to be very ball dominant offensively. They need more from Bridges who was disappointing as the 3rd option.

And lastly, Thibs works his starters more than anyone. Knicks were dead last in bench minutes and bench points. They need to get deeper and take some miles off the starters.

This reminds me a little of the Yankees firing Buck Showalter after 2 great seasons in 94 and 95. He was key in bringing the Yanks back from oblivion and installing a winning culture. I was shocked and angry at the time but Torre was everything they needed.
I think that’s a good analogy.

Another is Rick Carlisle himself. He did well in Detroit earlier in his career, only to get fired for Larry Brown who elevated the Pistons to that final level.

I don't believe SHU has $6M to spend.I think they are still waiting for the House settlement to finalize. We are way too conservative and as a result are getting left behind.
What doesn’t make sense on this is that we are clearly above last year by a decent margin, if you assume Clark alone was in the high six figure range. In the aggregate, we are definitely into some amount of what folks said was “rev share” money, and if that’s the case, what’s the point of just not going full throttle with MOUs. If you are in for a penny, and then some, you should be in for a pound, so to speak.

Just got sick while listening/watching Yankees v Guardians and having Slicky promote the St Johns program/recruits for half an inning and not seeing any press staements lauding any of the Hall's signings. Guess that would mean Sha's secret plans would be revealed.
Slick threw out the first pitch tonight, apparently, and is a fixture at those games. In addition to some Mets games. The guy is everywhere and a promotional machine. Crazy at this age but this is what the guy does.

CL - that was Borges interpretation of Hurley's comments. I read the piece and it was all Borges thinking without any substance from Hurley other than a throwaway quote. My question is if Hurley wants a "drama free summer" he could of put out a not interested statement. You would think he would at least listen. It appears his course of action by the lack of a statement.
New York Post thinks the same thing:

That said, I agree with you. It isn't in unequivocal denial. I was worried with the whole LA dalliance, but this one really isn't bothering me.

This is not a sustainable model

Second rate players, either not enough money to spend or poor judgment in managing the spend. How can we possibly compete in this landscape?

To me, we are going to be the perennial cellar dweller in the Big East. We behave and spend like a mid-major. That increasingly looks like what we are. We would be better off in the MAAC. Heresy? Prior to NIL it would have been. Not now. Barring a seismic shift in the environment of the sport, we are going nowhere in the Big East.

You're not getting an All-American type kid for $1.5M but Goodman (I think it was him) reported that the low end for a HM all-conference player was $1.5M. We could have gotten 2 of these players.

I just pray that the full $6M wasn't at his disposal for some reason, because if it was.........they are beyond wildly incompetent.
The administration is wildly incompetent. We have seen innumerable examples of that.

Seton Hall adds G Mike Williams from LSU

I believe the new recruits will do better in the OOC against the Hofstra's of the world. Maybe an upset against a Power Conference team at home or in a neutral site venue. After that they will take their lumps in The BigEast unless they add some height. This recruiting strategy is kind of odd to say the least.
Agree that may drop fewer low-major games. Big east could be worse

Let’s say he’s got the $6 million. Studs are going for $2 M+, so two players are going to take 80% of your budget. And he would have little left to fill out the roster. Why would two studs sign up for that?

And that’s not his coaching style. He’s going to live and die with this plan, but maybe it’s the only path he has right now.
We have no $2M studs.
