Left Coast Pirates - BE Mid conference Check In

Is it mid season check in or checkout? An embarrassment and worst SHU team in memory. How can we go into a season without a BE caliber PG and Center?People who manage the athletic program need to be held accountable.
I hear ya. Really tough spot to be.

There are plenty of diehards that I have read posts from throughout the years. The undertone from most of them is leaning towards “check out”.

At this point, you still hear chatter about what can be done differently next year:
Better talent evaluation
Spend the money differently
Creative player contracts
Administration top down engagement changing
Target one or two guys to carry you.
Land a big whale
Change your coaching philosophy to fit the new model.
Etc etc.

All of these ideas are rationale to have hope again for next season.

Whenever we get to our final episode of the season, all this is what we will dive into.

My biggest fear is that if we go through another season like this back to back, more people will come to the realization that NIL / transfer portal rules don’t align with what Seton Hall can do consistently to remain competitive, and the APATHY or disengaging with college basketball with become wide spread amongst the entire fan base.

Then you end up with cavernous arenas and that becomes very difficult to recover from.

Enough is Enough: The Leadership Failures at Seton Hall

So elaborate on it then.
I have done many times. The smear of the Msgr and the ridiculous smear of Hank. All while bemoaning the NIl and claiming that giving rates are solely the fault of the school. No the giving rates reflect a much deeper issue with our alumni base.

This site has become a cesspool.

The complaints about the team, the results of the portal and even Sha’s coaching ability are fair. But it goes beyond the pale. And all done behind a non de plume.

Worst Team in the Big East

Perhaps I have missed it, but have we (the public) heard anything from McBride recently? My understanding (perhaps incorrectly so) was that he was going to be pretty visible and active in communicating with the fanbase. It seems like neither has been the case for quite some time now.

This all very much feels like a bad venture capital deal. We are essentially the investors who keep getting hit up for cash infusions but it doesn't seem like anyone in charge is forthcoming with real updates or news of note. I would rather hear about our failed attempts than nothing at all.

Francesa on Seton Hall and NIL

theres a cap and a draft in baseball to make sure the best talent goes to the weakest teams. doesn't exist in ncaa. the best talent goes to the strongest teams.

your idea about the As and the Rays is wrong. the small NIL teams will be able to compete even less than these As and Rays
Yep, there is no luxury tax to spread around small NIL teams. We are much worse off.

1. SJU 19-3 10-1
Still # 1 but the schedule will soon ramp up

Not a good look home to UConn

3. Creighton 16-6 9-2
7 Ws in a row has them slightly ahead of UConn

Poor outing at home against DePaul. Great one against Marquette

Flip a coin with the rest of the 5-6 teams

3 Ls in a row

Win one by 2, lose one by two

Will get the #1 draft choice next year. LOL

Injury-Plagued Pirates Suffer Setback At DePaul

CHICAGO, ILL. — Despite a bounce back performance from Isaiah Coleman and a career-best night on the boards from David Tubek, the Seton Hall men's basketball team fell to DePaul, 74-57, at Wintrust Arena Sunday evening.

The Pirates (6-16, 1-10 BIG EAST) were playing without starting guards Chaunce Jenkins and Dylan Addae-Wusu due to injuries. The Hall also found itself without Scotty Middleton for most of the contest due to an ankle injury suffered in the first half. The Blue Demons (11-12, 2-10 BIG EAST) shot 40.9 percent from beyond the arc with four double-digit scorers.

How It Happened
In this Windy City clash, the Pirates found themselves down 12-0 through five minutes of play. Despite the deficit, the Pirates quickly pulled themselves back into the game. The Hall went on 12-to-3 run, bringing the scoreline to 15-12, thanks to offense from across the roster. In total, five different Pirates scored during this run. The Blue Demons responded to The Hall's offense by expanding the visitors' deficit to 8, 25-17, with 6:47 remaining in the half.

Yet, once again, the Pirates slowly brought the game to them. Isaiah Coleman, rebounding from an off-form performance against Providence, continued to pump out points for the Pirates. Alongside Garwey Dual and Jahseem Felton, The Hall came within three once again, 29-26, with 4:35 left before the break. Over the final four minutes on the half, however, DePaul expanded the deficit to nine, 38-29, entering the break in Chicago.

In the opening minutes of the second half, both sides traded buckets before the Blue Demons slowly began to pull away from the Pirates. As the clock ticked past midway point of the second half, the Pirates faced a 22-point deficit, 59-37 with 9:58 remaining in the game. Seton Hall responded with a 9-to-0 run, highlighted by a pair of buckets from Yacine Toumi, cutting the deficit to 13, 59-46, with 8:22 left on the clock. After the Blue Demons expanded the deficit to as many as 21, The Hall cut it back down to 12, 69-57, with under three minutes remaining with a Prince Aligbe layup. The Pirates would never draw closer, however, and the team fell to DePaul, 74-57

News & Notes
  • This is the 27th meeting between the two BIG EAST institutions.
  • With the loss, the Pirates move to 26-11 all-time against the Blue Demons.
  • Seton Hall had 19 second-chance points to DePaul's 14.
  • Seton Hall had 10 steals to DePaul's 7.
  • Tubek played a career-best 24 minutes and was one point away from matching his career high.
  • Dual finished with his fifth performance of 5-plus assists this season and the eighth of his career.
  • With 18 points, Coleman recorded his eight game in BIG EAST play with 18+ points.
    • This was his 14th game with double-digit points this season.

Francesa on Seton Hall and NIL

Maybe I misheard, but I didn't hear him totally right off the impact of coaching.

From a recruiting perspective, he was pretty opinionated about the significance of NIL compared to in the past, when certain guys were great recruiters/closers (others not) and where things like facilities no doubt played a huge role.

NIL or not, coaching and player development still matters big time. Look at all the teams that supposedly spent huge NIL dollars this year like Kansas State or Arkansas that are having awful seasons.

His main point was that we have now have a system where it's the A's and the Rays, on one side, and the Dodgers, Mets, Yankees etc, on the other. With various teams between.

To be the Rays, you need to coach/scout/develop. The NIL rich teams can still fail, no different than what we've seen in baseball forever, but they have an inherent advantage.

Not good the heat is on

I mean what is Seton Hall doing? They had someone who was highly qualified already in the acting position when Reilly was named. She was so qualified that Gonzaga tabbed her to be President. So not only did we hire someone who is embroiled in a scandal after being sued by the previous President, we then lose our own in house person to Gonzaga. wtf???
and cherry on top , clearly done on purpose, last months edition of the Seton Hall's newsletter that gets mailed out was all about how great Reilly is. hes on the cover. no accident.
