Seton Hall probably won't get an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, although they have an outside shot.
As for an automatic bid ... Seton Hall has a 1% chance to win the conference tournament. The outlook is bleak, but stranger things have happened.
We project the Pirates with a 1% chance to make the Sweet Sixteen, but essentially no chance to reach the Final Four.

Predictions Update
Nov 22, 2024
After beating VCU 69-66 yesterday, Seton Hall is now projected to finish the regular season 13-17 (7-13 Big East).
The odds that the Pirates make the NCAA tournament are up to 9%, an increase of 4% since yesterday.
We currently rank Seton Hall as the #88 team in the country, and the #9 team in the Big East.
Next game: Fri, Nov 22 vs. #83 Vanderbilt. Our power ratings give the Pirates a 49% chance to win.

Game Thread: SHU vs Vandy

I wouldn’t classify VCU as a bad team but they lost again tonight to Nevada. Maybe our OT game with them last night had something to do with it.

Personally, I think we have to expand so much energy on defense to make up for our putrid offense. Not a formula for success for back to back games this early in the season.

I guess we’ll find out on Sunday.

Regardless, a .500 record in the Big East is a pipe dream based on our body of work so far.
Your point about the defense is exactly on point and also noted in another thread. Hard to replicate the effort they put out vs VCU in back to back games especially with the our woefully inconsistent offense not being able to score enough points.

Woof

I'm not shocked by the defensive letdown. It makes sense, given our style, that our defense wouldn't be the same in a back to back situation. It's a very high effort, high work rate style and even playing a deep lineup, it's going to wear some guys out. It can clearly be effective, but recovery time is important. Fortunately, after this weekend, that won't be an issue again until the BET. Not sure I'd bet on a deep run there though.
Excellent observation. Team played outstanding D vs VCU, effort, energy and intensity were off the charts and got enough O to get the win. They got into VCUs guards, pushed them out and wore them down. VCUs 3 point shooting wilted late and in OT.

Being here and watching the team vs Vandy it was obvious the effort was there but just a bit slow. Couldn’t recover and get out on shooters. Gave up way too may straight line drives. Vandy ran some nice O but so did VCU.

Expecting a much better defensive effort Sunday with a day to recover. If we come out of Charleston 2-1 i think most of us would consider it a successful trip. We’ll see.

True. I was referring more to first four teams we played. Sunday will be interesting to see how they respond.

It’s time for Sha to take some heat

Some good, some bad with Holloway. His offense has always been horrible, although it looked good during that St. Petey run.

Already some whispers out there that he's a goner at the end of the year. Wouldn't shock me. I think he sees that Seton Hall is toast like Kevin did.

Ummm which fan base or AD is saying remember that guy who coached St Peters 3 years ago, look what he’s doing now. Oh yea I want that here at our school. I need to bring that here.
