If you were Kadary ....

People always saw flashed in him but this is his first year of playing good basketball. It is also his senior year and he's still not an NBA level talent.

If you were Kardary would you ...
  • Press through injures with the hope that you would impress scouts knowing that this year really should be your last year?
  • Play it cautious as you still will have a pro carrier overseas or potentially make decent NIL money playing at another school next year?
  • Play it cautious and return to Seton Hall with the hopes of Sha is going to get him to even a higher level.

Baines goes for 19 points and nine rebounds in the setback.
OMAHA, NEB. – Graduate student Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) had a game-high 19 points to go with nine rebounds, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team couldn't find its offensive footing late and fell to No. 21 Creighton, 57-49, on Sunday.

The Pirates trailed by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, but battled back thanks to a 10-0 run. Both defenses clamped down in the fourth quarter with each team making only one field goal over the final 10 minutes. Creighton, however, went 8-for-12 from the free-throw line to hold off Seton Hall.

Baines had 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting and nine rebounds. I'yanna Lops (Stamford, Conn.) had six points, a team-high 10 rebounds and two blocks.

THE STORY:
After a defensive first quarter when both teams shot only 33 percent from the field, Creighton found its shooting touch in the second. A three-pointer by Baines cut The Hall's deficit to 18-16 early in the second, but the Bluejays held the Pirates scoreless for the next 5:12, going on a 9-0 run to take a 27-16 lead with under 4:00 to play before halftime. Creighton took a 33-24 lead into the break.

Creighton hit a three-pointer to open the second half, but the Pirates responded with a 10-0 run, and a three-pointer by Gray cut their deficit to just two points, 36-34, with 6:35 left in the third. After falling back down by nine, The Hall closed the third with five straight points, including three made free-throws by Savannah Catalon (Burleston, Texas) with one-tenth of a second left to cut Creighton's leads to 47-43 entering the fourth.

Both teams upped their defensive intensity for the fourth quarter with the teams combining to go only 2-for-25 from the field. The Hall didn't collect its first made field goal until a reverse layup by Baines with 19 seconds left. Creighton was held without a field goal for the final 8:53 of the contest. The Bluejays, however, made eight free-throws in the final quarter and were able to hold off The Hall.

THE NUMBERS:
  • Seton Hall was 16-for-58 (27.6%) from the floor for the game, while Creighton was 20-for-53 (37.7%). The Hall was 4-for-19 (21.1%) from three-point range, while the Bluejays were 8-for-24 (33.3%).

Next game: Tue, Jan 30 at #251 DePaul. Our power ratings give the Pirates a 84% chance to win.

I Hope It Was Worth It To Sha…

…to have Richmond on the floor at the end of a blowout game. His “oh, my bad” response spoke volumes. He’s a good coach, but he needs some critical thinking skills. He knew we couldn’t afford an injury to our best player, so why was he screwing around?

As of right now, that decision has cost the team. This was close to a need-to-win game. It remains to seen just how much it costs us, by the price has the potential to be incredibly steep. We’re not gonna have any gimmie’s, especially if Richmond is out for an extended period. This could be disastrous.

Zach Braziller on Court Storming

"Sunday was a bad day for fans of court-storming. There were two different incidents caught on camera.

An Ohio State fan ran into Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark, violently knocking her to the floor, and a Tulane fan pushed Memphis wing David Jones from behind. Fortunately, Clark wasn’t injured, Iowa announced, and Jones didn’t retaliate. But next time, it could be worse. Next time, there could be a major injury or a brawl.

Something has to be done to protect players — and that includes barring these postgame traditions, especially if stuff like this continues to happen. Someone’s season, or possibly career, is going to get ruined eventually."

I couldn't agree more strongly. Storming is an idiotic practice that should be banned everywhere. It already is in several places. It is an open invitation for someone --player, coach or spectator-- to suffer serious injury.

Seton Hall Falters In Second Half At Marquette

It was a tale of two halves Saturday afternoon at the Fiserv Forum as Seton Hall led for more than 19 minutes to open the game before falling to 14th ranked Marquette, 75-57.

The shorthanded Pirates (13-9, 6-4), who continue to be without senior captain Kadary Richmond due to injury, suffered its third straight loss after opening conference play winning six of their first seven.

The Hall opened the contest with a quick 4-0 advantage on jumpers from graduate guard Al-Amir Dawes and freshman guard Isaiah Coleman, who was making his second straight start in Richmond’s absence, in the first two minutes.

Back-to-back long-distance shots from senior guard Dylan Addae-Wusu extended the lead to 10-3 in the first three minutes and baskets from graduate center Jaden Bediako and senior forward Dre Davis
maintained the visitors’ hot start as they led 14-7 just five minutes into the game on 6/10 shooting.

Marquette, looking for retribution to their 78-75 loss three weeks ago in New Jersey, rallied back from the slow start and early deficit to close the score to 16-14 with less than 10 minutes remaining by speeding Seton Hall up and forcing turnovers as they were down one of their primary ballhandlers.

The Pirates maintained and extended their narrow lead thanks to five straight points from Davis on a three assisted by Addae-Wusu followed by an offensive rebound and putback for the 21-16 edge with
seven minutes to go.

Again, Marquette cut the lead back to two before Seton Hall pushed the Golden Eagles back to arm’s length, 25-19, on back-to-back layups from Bediako off assists from Dawes and sophomore guard Jaquan
Sanders, prompting a timeout from Marquette Head Coach Shaka Smart with four minutes remaining.

Marquette responded out of the timeout and eventually took their first lead of the game, 28-27, on a three from Ben Gold with just over a minute remaining before entering the half up 31-30.

The Hall cooled off considerably after the quick start, but was able to keep the game close by out rebounding the home team 22-15, including 8-4 on the offensive glass for a 12-4 advantage in second chance points, but nine turnovers and eight fast break points helped Marquette counteract their early sluggishness.

It was a different game in the second half as Marquette stormed out with a 14-4 run, including three makes from long range, for a 45-33 lead just four minutes into the half.

Seton Hall responded out of the media timeout with an 8-1 run of their own – capped by a block from Coleman before Dawes raced it up the court and laid it off for an easy bucket for Bediako, who scored
six of the team’s eight on the run, to close the score to 46-41. However, that would be as close as the Pirates would get the rest of the way as Marquette shot a blistering 19/31 (61%) from the field and 5/10
(50%) from three in the second half to pull away and get their retribution.

Leading Marquette was Oso Ighodaro with a game-high 21 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists, while David Joplin tallied 20 points, including three triples, and Stevie Mitchell contributed
13 points and six boards.

Pacing Seton Hall was Bediako with 18 points and eight rebounds and Davis with 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Seton Hall returns to action Tuesday evening when they play DePaul at Wintrust Arena.
