See you guys in about a week

Surgery set for 945AM tomorrow. About 6 hours then recovery.

While I am gone Colin will take my place in the media room covering the games. He will also monitor the board but has a full time job so please have mercy on his soul. LOL

Zack will cover the away games and I would just ask that those that have access to Kenpom, please help out here.

Also, on the free board check Jerry Carino's site for any of his stories and link them if appropriate.

Again, thanks for all the well wishes and this should be over before we know it.

UnderArmour - Site Sale

Hi all -

Just a heads up that the Underarmour has a small SHU assortment of mens/womens/kids apparel in their online outlet store right now. The prices are discounted and they are advertising an extra 25% off coupon, but I found a 50% coupon that worked on everything in the outlet instead. Ended up scoring some nice vintage pirate gear, including a hat for my small son that I have yet to see on campus or at the arena.

The code to use is: EXTRA50

Who ya Got?

Helping out HallDan for this game.

My heart says Seton Hall. Half of my head says SetonHall. I don't know if I'm overestimating SJU or underestimating SHU. They seem like dead even teams at this point. As long as the weather doesn't affect the attendance the crowd should be fired up. The Hall is a mentally tough team right now. Pitino is a great coach. Limit the SJU made FG's. If Richmond or Dawes score in the 20's The Hall takes it.

St. John's Game

Exciting game tomorrow night. This will be a tough one. I've watched a few of their games and Pitino has them really playing well. At 12-5, 4-2 today and #34 in both KP and NET, they've rallied after that bad loss to BC in Brooklyn: They've won 6/8 with the only two losses being a 4-pointer at Connecticut and a 1-pointer at Creighton, both games that were back and forth and they could've won. They blew out Xavier, Butler, and Villanova on the road, and squeaked out a win versus Providence last week.

They're going to test our interior defense. They lead the league in % of points from 2PT and are 3rd in FTA:FGA, plus they have the best offensive turnover % in the conference so far. It's not just Soriano, but RJ Luis is dynamic and to me looks like their most talented player. They're not taking as many 3's as a typical Pitino team, but they can get streaky out there with Jenkins and Dingle.

Bediako's foul problems are a huge deal in this game, IMO (5.4 per 40 mins in BE games, not good). The Johnnies can be susceptible defensively in the lane, which is also where we live. They're out of position and the rotations are off often and ring up a lot of fouls as they have a league-worst FTA:FGA. But they lead the league in 3PT%D, where we can't shoot anyway, LOL.

Richmond Big East player of the week… Again

It's always good to get the big east player of the week nod. Getting them back to back is particularly impressive.

BIG EAST Player of the Week

Seton Hall Takes Down Butler For 4th Straight Conference Win

By: Colin Rajala

Despite picked to finish ninth in the Big East preseason coaches poll, Seton Hall (12-5, 5-1) maintained its position alone atop the conference standings with a 78-72 road victory over Butler (11-6, 2-4) at Hinkle Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

The win marked the Pirates third consecutive road victory in the early portion of conference slate as The Hall have won seven of their last eight games, including four straight. The Pirates now stand at 4-2 in Quad 1 games.

The Big East is known for being a competitive and physical league and that was on full display for the 7,777 fans attending the matchup of the league’s two teams that are most widely considered to be outperforming their early prognostications.

Despite leading most of the game (25:30) the Pirates found themselves down two points with less than two minutes remaining in the game before graduate guard Al-Amir Dawes connected on a tough contested shot at the end of the shot clock to knot the score at 72-72.

Seton Hall’s defense clamped down when it needed it most, contesting and forcing a Butler missed three, before senior guard Kadary Richmond isolated his defender and used his strength to clear enough space to convert in the lane for a 74-72 lead with one minute remaining.

On the ensuing possession, senior wing Dre Davis bodied up senior forward Jahmyl Telfort in the lane and contested his shot before gradate center Jaden Bediako secured the rebound and got the ball to Richmond for two more free throws to put the game out of reach with 22 seconds to go.

Richmond was one of four Seton Hall players in double figures and led all scorers with 24 points, including his 1000th collegiate point, to go along with 12 rebounds (three offensive), five assists, one steal and one block.

Davis and senior guard Dylan Addae-Wusu both scored 14 points, going 2/4 and 3/4 from long distance, respectively, while Dawes recorded 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Seton Hall Head Coach Shaheen Holloway, known for his defensive prowess, did not see a standout defensive performance but his team contested well at the rim (13 blocks) and got enough stops late. The Pirates’ offense stood out, shooting 30/59 (50.8%) from the field and 8/22 (36.4%) from distance, including 8/16 in the first half, while only turning it over 10 times.

Butler shot 24/59 (40.7%) from the field and 9/23 (39.1%) from three.

The Hall used its toughness and physicality to outscore the Bulldogs 36-20 in the paint and control the boards 34-27.

Butler was led by Posh Alexander’s 17 points, while Jalen Thomas and Telfort tallied 15 and 13 points apiece in the losing effort.

Seton Hall returns to action Tuesday evening when they host local rival St. John’s at 8:30 at the Prudential Center.
