The Athletic -- SHU Ranked #15

Posted earlier today.

"Since the calendar flipped, BartTorvik ranks Holloway’s team as the 15th-best in the country — ahead of BYU, Wisconsin, and even the Connecticut team Seton Hall beat back on Dec. 20. (And yes, that Connecticut win is going to be as valuable come Selection Sunday as you’d think it would.)"

Keep winning.

Trials of Being A Bosox fan in Yankee Territory - The Ruin of the Red Sox Brand Essay

I know that many here are diehard Yankee fans and some Mets ones as well. Living in CT has taught me how to be in enemy territory. Being a ad agency/branding professional over 40 decades and being a Sox fan close to 60, the Sox are close level of fandom for the Pirates. I penned this essay about the angst of following a big market team that doesn't want to spend. Frustrating as hell (I understand that Yankee fans have no empathy for me) Helps to write. Would love to hear your reaction as it gets to the heart of ownership that is milking a brand. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/boston-red-sox-brand-so-bad-bill-field-a8xzf

Tough & Physical

Some switch got flipped shortly after the Rutgers game and we have proceeded to beat on and beat up our opponents. This team is a bunch of dudes that just out tough and physically beat on the other team. Soriano got abused last night, might have been under the weather, and was camped on the bench for most of the 2nd half. JB & EHE have not just neutralized they have outplayed the other team’s big men. Davis & Wasu are men inside. Richmond is playing bully ball with the other team’s guards. This is a far cry from Gonzo’s teams that couldn’t rebound worth a damn.

If we run into a whistle happy referee crew we are in trouble because last night they let a lot of contact go especially in the post where it was a glorified wrestling match all night. Good luck to Creighton if they come in soft on Saturday.

Happy to eat Crow

I have to admit I was ready to pack in the season, bench Dawes and Addea-Wasu and go with the youth movement. I am very happy to admit I was wrong. Now, Dawes was playing awful basketball all around. The team looked like they would be offensively challenged so my feeling were justified at the time. This team is really starting to look like the team Sha coaching in JC during the Elite 8 run. Cutting to the basket for easy buckets. Timely 3 pointers. Relentless defense. They have been a bit sloppy of late with turnovers but some of those have been due to trying to slip passes into tight windows. Last night was the best our offense has looked in as far as i can remember. Yes we've had more prolific offenses based on 1 shooter (Powell, Hazell, IW) but the way we are moving the ball has been a pleasure to watch. WE consistently have 4 or 5 guys near or above double figures. This team is learning how to play off eachother and we have that GOTO guy in Richmond when we need a bucket. The scary thing is I don't think we're peaking yet. If what we saw out of EHE last night is something he can do consistentlly, pulling the center out to guard him on the perimeter, it's going to open up the lane for Richmond even more. He doesn't seem to need much space as he seems to make himself open any time we need a bucket with relentless probing and crossing over and stepthrough. Hopefull Sha can keep them hungry and focused with a next game is the only game mentality. We do that I think will have more NCAA wins in this season than we've had since Sha was manning the point.

Best Back Court in the BIG EAST?

I think we know it was probably some belief and a lot of coach speak from Sha when he made that comment.

But based on conference play only. Is that comment a true statement?
