As I see it

With Dan off the board, figured I'd get this going for this week for our regular contributors on this thread.

1. Connecticut 15-2 (5-1)
Winning while waiting on Clingan's return.

2. Creighton 13-4 (4-2)
Winners of four straight now bring the show on the road this week with two games at Big East leaders UConn and Seton Hall.

3. St. John's 12-5 (4-2)
Four game win streak snapped with a one point nailbiter in Omaha. Playing well coming to Newark Tuesday.

4. Marquette 11-5 (2-3)
Lost only three times in 20 league games last season. Took them only five games to do that this season.

5. Villanova 11-5 (4-1)
Quietly won 5 out of 6 since a three game losing streak in December.

6. Seton Hall 12-5 (5-1)
Are they for real? Recent resume says yes, metrics say probably not. Big week ahead.

7. Xavier 8-8 (2-3)
Not a great record but this team wins big when it does win.

8. Providence 11-6 (2-4)
Four straight L's after starting league play 2-0. Due to the loss of Hopkins or just coming back down to earth? Probably both.

9. Butler 10-6 (2-4)
Competitive at home against UConn and Seton Hall, but lost both late. Lost four out of last five.

10. Georgetown 8-9 (1-5)
Showed some signs of life this week but the only reason they aren't 11th is because of...

11. DePaul 3-13 (0-5)
Historically bad major conference team. Current NET of 288, just ahead of the likes of Kansas City, Delaware State, and UTRGV.

##### 2024 BIG EAST Prediction Contest: January 12-14 #####

A bunch of players went 4-1 this week but nobody went undefeated as everyone picked Marquette over Butler. @GrMtWoods was one of those who went 4-1 and now leads by two games over @SPK145 and @hoops41. Eight players follow them at 19-7.

Friday, January 12

DePaul (3-12, 0-4) @ Villanova (10-5, 3-1) - 8:30 PM - FS1 - The Finn/Villanova

Saturday, January 13

Seton Hall (11-5, 4-1) @ Butler (10-5, 2-3) - 12:00 PM - FS1 - Hinkle/Indy
St. John's (12-4, 4-1) @ #22 Creighton (12-4, 3-2) - 1:00 PM - FOX - CHI/Omaha
Xavier (7-8, 1-3) @ Providence (11-5, 2-3) - 2:00 PM - FS1 - The AMP/Providence

Yet another quick turnaround follows, with a game scheduled for Monday afternoon. Be ready!

Massive Week Ahead

Easily the biggest week of the Holloway era so far. A chance for this team to solidify themselves as legit conference title contenders and maybe a top 15 team in the nation.

2-0: We stand alone with UConn as the best teams in the conference and remove all doubts that this current run is anything but legitimate.

1-1: We are still in the mix as one of the best teams in the Big East, and are well positioned to make the tournament.

0-2: Not ideal, but not the hardest pill to swallow if both games are competitive. Still a bubble team if so.

Regardless of the outcome, having a homestand of this magnitude felt impossible just a few short weeks ago. Let’s just enjoy the ride we’re on and have the Pru Center absolutely rocking for these guys on Tuesday night.

NYC Grassroots HS All-Time List

I saw some stuff this week in which Sebastian Telfair says he is the best player out of the 5 boroughs all time. Mark Jackson and Rafer Alston objected to this. With that said...is the following fair game?

Connie Hawkins
Kareem
Kenny Anderson
Bernard King
Mark Jackson
Kenny Smith
Walt Berry
Earl Washington
Steph
Malik Sealy
Felipe Lopez
Dre
Omar
Taliek
Artest
Odom

I would say Telfair had a great handle, was overrated in the draft, had a J that was not consistent now PSAL he won 3 city titles but Lance won 4 city titles

Some Weird Stats

We all have been watching /rooting for The Hall For a fairly long time and already this Year some weird Stats are being set.( by weird I mean those that I fail to recall happening --in no particular Order:

1. Today--13 Blocks with 7 of the 8 players for SHU getting at least 1 ?? Sanders with 2 and tallest Player (Hutchinson ) none ????
2 . Versus Friars --playing 4 Subs = 0 points and 0 assists and winning Game ??
3. Versus Golden Warriors/Eagles 22 T/O s in a win?
4. KR getting to 1000 points and really little mention just as Dawes getting to 1000 at Xavier _prob cause for their careers but still a feat due Congrats
I know i am forgetting stuff but blame it on age

Credit to the players, Shaheen AND the staff

Shaheen was loyal to the guys who got St Peter’s to the Elite Eight and was ripped for this. So many posters said they were the worse staff in the big East and we would never accomplish anything with them. After watching the last 8 games that have turned around this season with one exciting game after another, I need to give the staff a shoutout. Shaheen can’t do this alone and we need to give credit where credit is due. I wouldn’t change anything about this staff.
