Seton Hall took its place alone atop the Big East standings with a 74-70 road victory over Georgetown in front of a sparse crowd at Capital One Arena Tuesday evening.

The Pirates (11-5, 4-1) scored on their first possession of the game and led for the majority of the contest (36 minutes), but the rebuilding Hoyas (8-8, 1-4) hung around and chipped away, taking their first lead of the game, 63-62, on a putback off an offensive rebound with just under four minutes remaining in the game.

Georgetown extended the lead to three points on their next possession, 65-62, on a runner from Jayden Epps, who led all scorers with 30 points on 9/18 shooting, including 5/12 from three, as part of a 7-0 run with just over three minutes to go.

With its veteran experience and savvy, the Hall did not waver and regained the lead, 66-65, after senior guard Kadary Richmond drove the lane and converted with just under two minutes remaining.

Clinging on to a one-point lead, The Hall used steals by senior wing Dylan Addae-Wusu and Richmond on the next two Georgetown possession to help create some breathing room and cement their sixth
straight victory over the Hoyas.

Seton Hall was led by its three captains, who were the team’s only three players in double figures and combined for 77% of the teams scoring (57 points).

Al-Amir Dawes led the Pirates with 25 points on 5/7 shooting from long distance, while adding five rebounds and two assists. In his typical fashion, Richmond tallied 20 points on 9/13 shooting from the
field to go along with eight rebounds, eight assists and two steals, while Dre Davis recorded 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Seton Hall jumped out to an 18-4 lead on a 14-0 run in the first six minutes of the game before extending it to a game-high 16-point lead, 24-8, after Davis dunked home a pass from Richmond with 11 minutes
and change remaining in the half.

The Pirates started the game 11/13 from the field and scored nine points off of turnovers, but Georgetown’s first-year Head Coach Ed Cooley implored his team to “play with some pride” during the
media timeout and they came back out and did just that, reeling off a 19-5 run capped by a reverse layup from Wayne Bristol Jr. to close the gap to 29-27.

Making his homecoming, freshman guard Isaiah Coleman (Fredericksburg, Va.) scored five of his seven points on a layup and three pointer assisted by Dawes in the final minutes of the first half to give The
Hall a 39-31 advantage going into the break.

Seton Hall shot 72% from the field and 50% from three in the first half, but Georgetown got back into the game in the opening stanza by switching to a zone defense and turning over Seton Hall 12 times for 12 points. The Hoyas were unable to take a lead as they shot a paltry 3/18 from long range in the first half with Epps being the only player to convert from deep, shooting 3/8.

Georgetown nearly escaped with the home win after shooting 7/16 (43.8%) from long distance in the second half, but Seton Hall made its free throws down the stretch 10/12 (83.3%) to secure the victory.

For the game, Seton Hall shot 60% from the field and 46% from three, while outscoring Georgetown 36-18 in the paint.

Seton Hall returns to action in a second straight road tilt at Butler’s Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 12 p.m.

ESPN operated 13-year Emmy scheme using fake names to get awards for top talent​

ESPN got caught.

The network made up fake names for Emmy Awards in order to honor on-air talent who were ineligible to receive awards, only for the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), which oversees the Emmys, to foil the scheme, according to The Athletic.

“Some members of our team were clearly wrong in submitting certain names that may go back to 1997 in Emmy categories where they were not eligible for recognition or statuettes. This was a misguided attempt to recognize on-air individuals who were important members of our production team,” ESPN said in a statement to The Post.

“Once current leadership was made aware, we apologized to NATAS for violating guidelines and worked closely with them to completely overhaul our submission process to safeguard against anything like this happening again.”

ESPN had operated the scheme since 2010 by getting awards for fake individuals, re-engraving the statuettes and then delivering them to their on-air personalities, per the report.

Stars such as Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Chris Fowler, Desmond Howard and Samantha Ponder were among those to receive the fake Emmys, with The Athletic noting the on-air talent was not in on the scheme or aware the Emmys were not real.

“I think it was really crummy what they did to me and others,” ex-ESPN talent Shelley Smith, who had two fake Emmys taken away, told the outlet.

ESPN’s punishment included the returning of the trophies, a one-year ban from the Emmys for senior leadership, along with two individuals, ESPN executive Craig Lazarus and former ESPN employee and “College GameDay executive Lee Fitting, being named ineligible for future Emmys.

This scheme helped honor the talent behind the success of “College GameDay,” since the hosts were not eligible to be honored in a credit list until 2023.




That meant the likes of Herbstreit and Corso did not receive a statuette for any of the eight Emmys the show won from 2008-18, per the report.

ESPN made slight name changes to some of the hosts and listed them as associated producers, per The Athletic, with Herbstreit being called “Kirk Henry” and Corso being named “Lee Clark,” among other made-up submissions.

NATAS asked ESPN to verify names in 2022, and ESPN admitted to the fake names.

The media giant has returned 37 trophies, per the report.

It goes without saying that Michigan’s basketball program doesn’t exactly get a lot of sympathy around here. Anyway, the season was pretty much going off the rails to begin with. This just adds to the dumpster fire. The administration has to have come to terms with the reality that Howard was a bad hire. At the time it was was splashy hire, but the deal has gone bad. Surely they know that his deep tournament run was because of John Beilein’s players. At what point do they do the right thing and cut ties? The man has no control over his team or himself - a bad combination.
