Nick Saban, who won 6 titles at Alabama, retiring

Nick Saban, considered among the greatest college football coaches of all time who won six national times at Alabama, is retiring, sources told ESPN's Chris Low.

Saban, 72, just completed his 17th season at Alabama.

"I've always said that if you're thinking about retirement, you're probably already retired, and I'm not there yet," Saban told ESPN in November.

That is a perfect Dawes game

coming from his harshest critic admittedly. thats the exact game he needs to play. good looks, limit turnovers, and hit his free throws. less is more. i know gtown stinks but its still a road game and the other guys continued the low IQ play and he didnt. last two games help his perception. still a ways to go overcome the full body of work, but if you get that from dawes half of the time good things will happen with this team.

couldnt win that game without him tonight. was a great job

Why we are winning......

1.) Seniority - We are one of the oldest teams in the country - we don't get rattled. Up by 10 or down by 10.

2.) Basketball IQ - We have very smart players and students of the game. KR and Bediako - know where the ball is going to go before it hits the rim. Watch what happens when it goes up. KR knows how to manage pace.

3.) High's & Low's - We dont get too excited or too down. It is amazing to watch the team after they beat the #5 and #7 team in the country - very low key - like they expected to win

4.) Rebounding - team effort - Wusu gets 10 rebounds and so does Bediako.

5.) Free throws - Who do you foul at the end of the game? Not an easy choice for our opposition.

6.) Kadary - It may be a long time before there is a better Pirate. He is going to put on a show at MSG in the BET ala Whitehead.

7.) 50/50 balls - Shaheen pays his salary here.....they get these balls......without slapping the floor!

Give KR a rest?

This probably sounds crazy to most fans, but here it goes. SHU has gotten a lift from the bench the last few games and Dawes has been effective at the point recently. With Richmond having small nagging injuries and fatigue, should we have him sit the start of the Georgetown game? We can substitute him in if things are going poorly, or give him a day off if things are going well.

Fire away.

Terrence Shannon files for restraining order against Illinois

Myron Medcalf, ESPN Staff Writer

Terrence Shannon Jr. filed for a temporary restraining order Monday that demands his school "immediately reinstate" the Illinois basketball player who was suspended indefinitely from all team activities last month following an arrest on a rape charge, his lawyer, Mark Sutter, told ESPN. The charge stems from an alleged rape in September.

Shannon's lawsuit, filed by Sutter and his legal team in the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court in Champaign, lists the Illinois board of trustees and school president Timothy Killeen as defendants.

After a warrant was issued for Shannon in Douglas County, Kansas, last month, he submitted to authorities and was briefly jailed before posting bail and returning to Champaign.

According to the initial complaint, Shannon was charged with "unlawfully, feloniously, and knowingly engaged in sexual intercourse with a person ... who did not consent to the sexual intercourse under circumstances when she was overcome by force or fear, a severity level 1 person felony."

The temporary restraining order, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN, claims Shannon was not granted due process before he was removed from the team. He is set to be arraigned Jan. 18, but the trial for the case would not begin until June, after the conclusion of the college basketball season.

"Does the presumption of innocence really mean anything? That question is at the heart of this case," the lawsuit states. "Illinois has promised [Shannon] that it would adhere to this presumption, but in practice Illinois has not applied it by suspending [him] and ruining his career as if he were already convicted. [Shannon] maintains his innocence, for the record. Sexual assault is a horrific crime, and [Shannon] is appalled that his name is mentioned in the same sentence with such a crime, and he in no way seeks to minimize that it is a real problem."

Illinois officials said they are reviewing Shannon's lawsuit but will defend the school's disciplinary process.

"We are aware that legal counsel for Terrence Shannon Jr. has filed for injunctive relief from his suspension from the men's basketball program," Robin Kaler, associate chancellor at Illinois, said in a statement. "We will review the filing and defend our student-athlete misconduct procedures, which allow us to respond swiftly to allegations of misconduct and serious crimes while affording our student-athletes a fair process and waiting for the legal system and university discipline processes to proceed."

Per the lawsuit, Shannon drove to Kansas with teammate Justin Harmon and DyShawn Hobson, an Illinois grad assistant who accompanied the two players on the trip on the weekend of a Kansas football game. The alleged rape happened at a local bar in Lawrence, Kansas, where a woman said Shannon touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her. She then, per the investigative report included in the lawsuit filed by Shannon, went to Lawrence police, who contacted Illinois.

Illinois athletic director Josh Whitman confirmed that the school was notified by Lawrence police that Shannon had been the subject of an investigation that involved an allegation he had inappropriately touched a woman, but Illinois officials were not told the details of that investigation.

In a later news conference, Whitman said school officials learned about the warrant for his arrest last month on social media.

"The university and [the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics] have shown time and again that we have zero tolerance for sexual misconduct," Whitman said in a statement after Shannon was suspended from all team activities. "At the same time, DIA policy affords student-athletes appropriate levels of due process based on the nature and severity of the allegations. We will rely on that policy and our prior experiences to manage this situation appropriately for the university and the involved parties."

Shannon's lawsuit states that he has been told by Illinois officials the school will not reconsider his suspension until his legal case is resolved, which would force him to miss the rest of the 2023-24 season and "suffer irreparable harm without injunctive relief, as his career will certainly be ruined if the suspension continues, trouncing on his business interests including contractual rights."

"All we want for our client is a fair process, and [Shannon] has not received that yet," Shannon's legal team said in a statement to ESPN. "Respectfully, this was a rush to judgment by the university, and the protocol that they implemented to summarily suspend our client ignored the fundamentals of due process and the presumption of innocence. Our team remains hopeful that justice will ultimately be served."

Shannon is averaging 21.7 points this season.

Washington, D.C. - Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) and Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each posted 20-point outings for the second consecutive game as the Seton Hall men's basketball team picked up its third consecutive win with a 74-70 victory over Georgetown on Tuesday night.

Dawes led the Pirates with 25 points and knocked down a season-high five 3-pointers. Richmond had another great all-around night, scoring 20 points to go with eight rebounds and eight assists. The Pirates now sit at 4-1 in BIG EAST play and have now won six of their last seven games.

Dawes, Richmond and senior Dylan Addae-Wusu (Bronx, N.Y.), who tied his career high with steals, all made key plays in crunch time that helped lead The Hall to victory.

How It Happened

After the two sides traded baskets in the opening minutes, the Pirates went on a blistering 14-0 run to take a commanding 18-4 lead with 13:49 left in the first half. With the Pirates leading 20-8, Addae-Wusu got a steal on the defensive end and Dawes converted a circus-shot layup that extended the Pirates' lead to 14. Another steal by Addae-Wusu made way for a Dre Davis dunk off of a Richmond assist that gave The Hall its largest lead of the game, 24-8, with 11:46 left before halftime.

The Hoyas whittled their deficit all the way down to two, 29-27, with 6:43 left in the first half but Seton Hall was able to hold Georgetown scoreless for the final three minutes of the stanza. Freshman Isaiah Coleman (Frederickburg, Va.) provided a spark off the bench by scoring the Pirates' final five points of the half that made it 39-31 at the break.

The Pirates opened the second half on an 8-2 run that was capped off by a Richmond three-pointer and it gave Seton Hall a 14-point lead again, 47-33. After the Hoyas made it a four-point game with 14:08 left, senior Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) would score the the Pirates' next eight points and it helped keep The Hall in front, 55-47. With the Pirates leading by four with 6:57 left, the Hoyas went on a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 65-62, with 3:15 left.

That's when the Seton Hall seniors took charge and helped the Pirates pull out the road victory. Georgetown had the ball up three with under three minutes to play when Addae-Wusu came up with his fourth steal of the night and found a trailing Dawes on the fast break who got fouled. Following a media timeout, Dawes sank both free throws that cut Georgetown's lead to one, 65-64.

With 2:08 left, Georgetown had the ball and Addae-Wusu came up with another huge play, this time an offensive foul drawn that gave the Pirates the ball back. That set the stage for Richmond, who took his defender off the dribble and tossed a left layup off the glass for the score, giving the Pirates a 66-65 lead with 1:49 left in the game. Two more steals by both Addae-Wusu and Richmond on the next two Hoya possessions helped make it a two possession game

Up Next

Seton Hall is on the road again this Saturday when they take on Butler at 12 p.m. on FS1. The Pirates are back at Prudential Center on Tuesday, Jan. 16 for another tough BIG EAST test against St. John's at 8:30 p.m. Secure your seats today.

Who ya got

If the Hall has any dreams of Dancing this game is a must.

The Pirates are clearly the better team, but coming off two emotional victories and playing their 3rd game in 6 days might be the equalizer. Although Georgetown is playing their 3rd game in 7 days, albeit all at home.

Looking for a closer game than expected.

Of course nobody missed him; he's a complete failure as SecDef. And Biden is incapable of understanding anything, so why bother to inform him? He gets absolutely no respect from anyone including his own senior staff. Can you imagine if this had happened to Trump what the headlines would be? How did you miss this story, NYShoreguy and all the other Biden fans?
