All year we hear that quad 1 wins are the most important metric. Having few or no Q3/Q4 losses. Virginia shits the bed their last 9 games going 4-5 and get rewarded with a spot in the dance. Texas A&M had five Q3 loses. Dayton - what the hell is even that? They also lost in the quarterfinals of their weak ass conference tournament and end up a 7 seed.

3We beat the #1 team in the nation. 12 wins in the Big East conference. We beat Marquette, Saint Peter’s, Wagner, Butler twice, Gtown twice , St John’s twice. “Took care of business” our last 2 games and beat Nova/DePaul that should have had us “safely” in.

While the NCAA Tournament will always be viewed with passion:

Is the magic and allure associated with making the NCAAT or the NIT (for young teams/schools rebuilding programs) slipping away?

1) The overuse of metrics favoring fbs.

2) The loss of the eye test focused on good wins and sos, where AD'S use to want to play anybody, but now analyze who to NOT play in order to improve their net, and throw sportsmanship out the window by raking up blow outs.

3) A portal system that impacts continuity and schools and players no longer wanting to play in the NIT as a reward for seniors, or as a way to get in more games ahead of next season, because of the risk of injury or lost roster building time.

4) Betting and NIL allegations of teams laying down to assist other conf members looking for added internal funding to conf members.

Yes CBB has been a slippery business model across many programs for a while, but the recent changes to the business of the game is disenchanting.

As much as I hate it and don’t want it I think it’s inevitable. We need more quality programs and ultimatums need to be given to DePaul and possibly Georgetown. They are complete drags, not just bad seasons now. They are terrible programs.

Well uva had 2 quad 1 wins and tex am had 4 quad 3 losses. Whats their justification for both??

Maybe Long Beach State should have fired Dan Monson sooner.

The longtime college basketball coach was canned Monday, when the school announced he would not be coming back for an 18th season.

Before he leaves, though, Monson is taking Long Beach State back to the NCAA tournament after an unlikely run in the Big West Conference Tournament.

The team had lost five games in a row prior to the start of the conference tourney before its fortunes turned.

Following wins over No. 5 UC Riverside and top-seeded UC Irvine, No. 4 Long Beach State beat second-seeded UC Davis Saturday night, 74-70, to advance to the Big Dance for the first time since 2012.

Long Beach State improved to 21-14

Monson has had considerable success in his career, first at Gonzaga, where he helped make the program into a national powerhouse — including an Elite Eight appearance in 1999.

He then went to Minnesota and got the Golden Gophers to the NCAA Tournament in 2005, but resigned in 2006 and moved to LBSU in 2007.

Monson, who said after Saturday’s game he’s not done coaching, has had mixed results there, but has five 20-win seasons.

On Monday, the school announced it had agreed to a “mutual separation” following a regular season in which LBSU went 10-10 in conference play and closed it out with that five-game losing streak.

Monson, though — LBSU’s all-time winningest coach — has once again proven to be able to find a way to win in March.

Ok so its not about beating quad 1 teams then

There was no criteria for these selections.

1. Ourselves. To many “we were not ready” statements after blown out loses

2. 3 losses. Bad losses to RI and USC killed us and Creighton overtime loss (refs)

3. Administration. This is where the lack of NIL strategy has come back to bite us. Sha likely in a better position thus 1 & 2 don’t happen

It won’t be a long, cruel wait until the end of all the brackets.

If by some miracle they are in, they will almost certainly be in Dayton.

And the First Four will be announced right out of the gate.

So merciful either way.

Dayton seeming like BEST case - and very iffy - scenario now.

No one to blame but themselves.

We lost eight games against conference opponents. If I'm not mistaken, six of those eight are by 18 points or more. Four of our 13 wins against conference opponents are against the god awful DePaul Blue Demons and Georgetown Hoyas. Go by those numbers, the real mystery is how we are even on the bubble.

… is all the free press coverage we are getting. Luckily we have 3 top flight recruits coming in the next few years, Felton, Godswill and “Payday”. Guys who could have gone elsewhere but decided to take what is likely less NIL money to play for a coach they like in Sha!

Hopefully they we be able to recruit more high level guys to come in. And to be honest, I like the guys we have on the bench now. Hopefully they will play up to standards Sha sets for defense and improve this Summer. I especially am interested to see how Malachi Brown improves. The speedy yet under control guard is similar to the guards Sha had at St Peter’s. Hopefully this will give our offense a different look with faster ball movement with less last second shots with the clock running down.

Still hopeful for a miracle at 6 tonight but still an unexpected exciting season so far

There are basically 5 bid stealers and if Oregon wins, that would be 6. New Mexico and Texas am were not in tourney before this weekend. FAU and Dayton losing. Nc state beating North Carolina. And maybe Oregon. Last year there were zero bid stealers. Just crazy. How depressing. The big east may only get 3 Bids.
