Inflation

Unfortunately more bad news yesterday.

https://www.axios.com/2022/10/13/inflation-september-cpi

80% of CEOs believe we are headed into an extended recession as well.

On healthcare….
Here’s a survey of HAP (Hospital Association of Pennsylvania) members on labor costs that since 2019:

  • Hourly rates paid to staffing agencies for registered nurses providing direct patient care in medical/surgical and other units have increased by 108% from $59 per hour to $123 per hour while the average number of shifts per day worked by temporary staff increased from five to eleven
  • Hourly rates paid to staffing agencies for registered nurses providing direct patient care in specialty units have increased by 82% from $66 per hour to $120 per hour while the average number of shifts per day worked by temporary staff increased from four to nine
  • Hourly rates paid to staffing agencies for nursing support staff (such as certified nurse assistants, patient care assistants, and nurse assistants) have increased by 444% from $9 per hour to $49 per hour while the average number of shifts per day worked by temporary nursing support staff increased from three to five
I post this because these are costs that cannot be clawed back and you cannot reduce the amount of nursing care as it is regulated. So these costs have been incurred and will flow through new insurance rates and ultimately to the consumer. hospitals would’ve done this sooner but the stimulus money they received enabled them to run their operations without raising prices. Look for your healthcare costs skyrocket over the next 2 to 5 years. Healthcare is 20% of our GDP so these increases will have a significant impact on continued inflation.

South Orange, N.J. – Seton Hall men's soccer travels to Milwaukee on Wednesday night for a showdown with Marquette. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m., with live coverage on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloFC.

LAST TIME OUT
The Pirates extended their unbeaten streak to seven with a 1-0 road win over UConn on Saturday night. Mattias Almeida Sundell (Sweden) got on the other end of a beautiful cross from Ralph Pascarella (Bellmore, N.Y.) to score what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 70th minute. Hannes Ronnholmen (Stockholm, Sweden) made three saves in goal to notch his fifth clean sheet of the season.

SCOUTING MARQUETTE (4-6-2, 0-2-2)
  • The Golden Eagles are fresh off a 3-3 draw at Providence which snapped a three-match losing streak.
  • After opening the season 3-1-0, Marquette has gone just 1-5-2 since.
  • Marquette ranks third in the conference with 26 goals scored on the season and have scored three or more goals in a game on four occasions.
  • The season series between the two sides is even at 7-7-3, with Marquette winning the most previous matchup last fall in South Orange.
NEWS & NOTES
  • The Pirates are unbeaten through five BIG EAST games for the second time in program history and the first time since 1991. The Pirates have never gone unbeaten through their first six conference games.
  • Hannes Ronnholmen's five shutouts are tied for the third most in a season in program history. His 0.90 GAA also ranks third lowest in a single season.
  • Seton Hall is one of only two teams in the BIG EAST with one or fewer losses so far this season (Xavier).
  • The win at UConn on Saturday night was the Pirates' first road win against the Huskies since a 3-2 overtime win in the semifinals of the 2000 BIG EAST Tournament.
  • Wednesday's tie against DePaul was the Pirates' fifth of the season, tying the single-season program record which has been done twice before (2014, 1979).
  • The Hall had an 11-2 edge in corner kicks on Wednesday against DePaul, their largest advantage in that category since owning a 10-0 margin in corners on Sep. 27, 2014, also against DePaul.
  • Borg's goal against St. John's was the latest regulation game-winning goal for the Pirates since CJ Tibbling's 89th minute goal against Air Force in the opening round of the 2020 NCAA Tournament.
  • Johannes Pex's penalty kick goal against Xavier was the latest game-tying goal scored by the Pirates since Spencer Burkhardt netted an equalizer at 89:58 in an eventual Pirate overtime win at Princeton on Sep. 7, 2017.
  • The Pirates scored a goal in each of their first nine matches of this season, doing so for the first time since 1999 when they scored in their first 11 matches.
  • Seton Hall has won its last seven matches, and 16 of its last 17, when scoring the first goal.
  • The win over Oregon State was the Pirates' first over a top-10 team in the United Soccer Coaches rankings since beating No. 2 Georgetown to win the BIG EAST title on Apr. 17, 2021. The win also marked the first time Seton Hall has defeated a top-10 non-conference foe since winning at No. 3 Virginia in the 2001 NCAA Tournament.
  • The Pirates conceded just one goal through its first three matches of the season, the program's best defensive start to a season since 2005.

QUEENS, N.Y. – Junior Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) erupted for a career-high 20 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at St. John's, 3-1 (16-25, 24-26, 26-24, 22-25), on Wednesday.

After a rough first set for The Hall, the Pirates and Red Storm played three very competitive sets, which featured 21 ties and eight lead changes. The Pirates showed character in outlasting St. John's in set three after a heart-breaking set two loss, but couldn't find the equalizer in set four.

Facing set point, 24-23, a kill by Bucciarelli tied the set at 24, but St. John's scored the final two points of the second frame to win, 26-24.

SET 3:
The Hall opened the third set with five of the first six points capped by a kill from Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.). Trailing 11-8, St. John's scored four straight to grab a 12-11 advantage. The Pirates struck back with four straight points to go back on top, 15-12, and force a Red Storm timeout. The Red Storm cut their deficit to 20-19, but The Hall scored four of the next five points to enter set point, 24-20. St. John's staved off four set points to tie the set at 24, but Bucciarelli put The Hall back in set point, and a St. John's attack error was the winner for the Pirates, 26-24.

SET 4:
The Hall raced out of the gate again in set four and a kill by Walsh gave it a 10-7 lead. St. John's responded with an 11-2 run to take an 18-12 advantage and force a Pirates timeout. The Hall bounced back with three straight points to cut their deficit in half. Down 22-18, a kill, followed by an ace from Walsh, crept the Pirates to within two, 22-20, and sent St. John's to a timeout. The Red Storm awakened, however, and closed out the fourth set, 25-22.

Thank you readers

It was tough sledding in the summer for awhile as we lost subscribers as we do every off season. But it seems many came back or new ones have taken their place as we are back to near normal.

I can't get exact numbers as Rivals doesn't give me that info but based on the pay I receive monthly I have a pretty good idea when we go up and we go down.

I say that now to thank our readers for staying loyal and allowing me the latitude to bring as much content to this site as possible. Losing JP hurt personally but it also was a major blow to the Trove. His array of contacts, built through a lifetime in the business was vast. It seemed like every suggestion I made to him was followed up with, "yeah I know him well and have his cell". That is no longer the case although Colin and Zack did a fabulous job in his place.

Lately, September and early October, the news has dried up. In the past the school gave us access to the entire coaching staff in the fall minus off course Kevin Willard who would not talk to us. However, to date we have had no such luck with the new staff and head coach. Sha for whatever reason has closed down most all contact with the program short of beat writer Jerry Carino. And even his access has been limited. Hopefully as the season nears that will change. I am hoping to talk to Sha this weekend and try to establish a line of communication.

Till then I want to again thank our loyal subscribers. With Big East Media Day, SHU Media Day, the Blue/White scrimmage, Kenpom soon to be released and the games to begin shortly after our two exhibitions (Boston College and Hofstra) we're back in business.
