Basketball transfer rankings

With most every top 100 player already picking a team this might be ESPN+'s final ranking.

Only the Big East players that have committed to a school in the conference....

1. Kadary Richmond, 6-6, PG, Sr., Seton Hall Pirates
COMMITTED TO ST. JOHN'S
Richmond is a difficult matchup due to his size and ability to play through contact. The first-team All-Big East guard averaged 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.1 assists. Went for 21 points, 13 boards and five assists in the NIT title game.

15. Wooga Poplar, 6-5, SG, Jr., Miami Hurricanes
COMMITTED TO VILLANOVA
Poplar had NBA buzz entering his junior year but was inconsistent down the stretch after a stellar first half of the season. Averaged 13.1 points and 4.8 rebounds, shooting 38.5% from 3-point range.

18. Pop Isaacs, 6-2, PG, Soph., Texas Tech Red Raiders
COMMITTED TO CREIGHTON
Isaacs carried the Texas Tech offense on occasion, including games of 32 points and 22 points against BYU. He was a third-team All-Big 12 selection, averaging 15.8 points and 3.5 assists.

24. Deivon Smith, 6-0, PG, Sr., Utah Utes
COMMITTED TO ST. JOHN'S
Smith is looking for his fourth school after coming off the best season of his career. He averaged 13.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 7.1 assists, shooting 40.8% from 3-point range.

26. Aidan Mahaney, 6-3, G, Soph., Saint Mary's Gaels
COMMITTED TO UCONN
Averaged 13.9 points in each of his two seasons with the Gaels, earning first-team All-WCC honors in both campaigns. Burst onto the scene with 18 points in an incredible overtime performance against Gonzaga as a freshman.

40. Tarris Reed Jr., 6-10, PF, Soph., Michigan Wolverines
COMMITTED TO UCONN
Reed was one of the most sought-after bigs in the portal. He was a top-40 recruit in the 2022 class and averaged 9.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks this past season.

53. Malik Mack, 6-1, PG, Fr., Harvard Crimson
COMMITTED TO GEORGETOWN
Mack averaged 20.1 points through the first 10 games of the season before being sidelined with mononucleosis. Still averaged 17.2 points and 4.8 assists on the season, winning Ivy League rookie of the year.

68. Ryan Conwell, 6-4, SG, Soph., Indiana State Sycamores
COMMITTED TO XAVIER
The newcomer of the year in the Missouri Valley and a second-team all-conference selection, Conwell can really shoot. Made 40% of his perimeter attempts on seven attempts per game, while averaging 16.3 points and 5.8 rebounds.

98. Garwey Dual, 6-5, SG, Fr., Providence Friars
COMMITTED TO SETON HALL
Dual entered the NBA draft but withdrew his name prior to the deadline. Had 14 points and four assists in his second career game, but never scored more than seven in a game the rest of the way. Had some one-and-done hype before his freshman season.

Covid Protocol

Looks like the President has covid. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Just curious saw him getting on the plane with people in Las Vegas and getting off the plane in Delaware and into the car, but i’m guessing now you don’t need to wear a mask if you get the 2024 version of covid. Is that true? What does the science tell us that we don’t need a mask?

NCAA Tournament to include two new metrics beginning in 2025

Two new metrics coming to selection process

On Thursday morning, the NCAA announced the changes that were approved during the committee's meetings in Park City, Utah. Most notably, the ever-valuable team sheets (which committee members constantly reference as they deliberate how to select and seed teams for March Madness) are getting a facelift. Two metrics — one résumé-based, one predictive — will be implemented starting next year. This will bring six metrics to team sheets, rounding out a process that will have more data — three predictive metrics, three résumé-based — than ever before................

South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's golf team was named a recipient of the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-Scholar Team GPA Award, the organization announced Tuesday. The Pirates produced the 11th best team GPA in the nation this past season at 3.850.

The WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award recognizes the top-25 teams each in Division I, II and III, the top-10 teams in NAIA, and the top team in NJCAA.

This year's team included Anne-Sofie Ekman (Copenhagen, Denmark), Renee Rane (New Delhi, India), Ana Sarrias Pro (Cadiz, Spain), Lara Todorovic (Belgrade, Serbia), Kasumi Tran (Swansea, Wales) and Ginevra Zavagli (Rome, Italy). All six of them were named WGCA All-American Scholars earlier this month.

With Seton Hall boasting the 11th highest team GPA among a total of 249 NCAA Div. I women's golf programs across the country, Seton Hall finished in the top four percent of the country in team GPA. The last time the Pirates cracked the top-25 was two years ago when they finished 17th in the country with a team GPA of 3.817.

Dick Vitale's early men's Sweet 16 teams for 2024-25

Here's an early preseason look at my Sweet 16 teams heading into the 2024-25 men's college basketball season. After busy weeks of movement in the transfer portal and with rosters finally settling down, it's time to dive into which teams are going to be contenders next season.

The era of free agency has hit all collegiate sports, and it has been interesting to see how coaches, who used to sell a program and university lifestyle, have now become general managers, putting together teams based on market value. Those who find the best values will be the ones who succeed.

With that in mind, let's take a preliminary look at the top teams heading into the season -- and some of their key players.

1. Kansas Jayhawks

After four second-round exits in five NCAA tournaments, it looks like Bill Self has assembled a lineup that can make a deep run again. The addition of perimeter shooting should help in an area that was lacking last season.

Returns: Three of the top six scorers in Hunter Dickinson, K.J. Adams Jr. and Dajuan Harris Jr.
Transfer additions: AJ Storr (Wisconsin), Rylan Griffen (Alabama), Zeke Mayo (South Dakota State) and Noah Shelby (Rice)
Freshmen: Two top-50 prospects in center Flory Bidunga (No. 17 in the ESPN 100) and guard Rakease Passmore (No. 32 in ESPN 100)

2. Alabama Crimson Tide
The return of Mark Sears makes Alabama an immediate contender to return to the Final Four. Nate Oats brought in some interior depth to aid fifth-year senior Grant Nelson with the addition of All-Big Ten big man Clifford Omoruyi from Rutgers.

Returns: Three of top five scorers in Sears, Nelson and Latrell Wrightsell Jr.
Transfer additions: Omoruyi and Aden Holloway (Auburn)
Freshmen: Three top-30 recruits in Derrion Reid (No. 11 in ESPN 100), Aiden Sherrell (No. 21 in ESPN 100) and Labaron Philon (No. 30 in ESPN 100)

3. UConn Huskies
Dare I mention "three-peat"? Dan Hurley certainly has the semblance of a team that can make another run with St. Mary's transfer Aidan Mahaney joining Hassan Diarra in the backcourt. Alex Karaban headlines the frontcourt and is the early front-runner for Big East player of the year.

Returns: Five of top nine scorers in Karaban, Diarra, Samson Johnson, Solomon Ball and Jaylin Stewart
Transfer additions: Mahaney and Tarris Reed Jr. (Michigan)
Freshmen: Five-star Liam McNeeley (No. 9 in ESPN 100) along with Ahmad Nowell (No. 34 in ESPN 100) and Isaiah Abraham (No. 58 in ESPN 100)

4. Houston Cougars
Kelvin Sampson and Houston made a big impact in their first season in the Big 12, and there's no letup in year two as shotmaker L.J. Cryer returns along with Emanuel Sharp for one of the premier backcourts in the nation.

Returns: Eight of top 10 scorers with Cryer and Sharp in the backcourt. Ja'Vier Francis and J'Wan Roberts anchor the frontcourt.
Transfer additions: Milos Uzan (Oklahoma)
Freshmen: Mercy Miller (No. 68 in ESPN 100) and Chase McCarty

5. Iowa State Cyclones
With a veteran lineup, the Cyclones look to move past the Sweet 16, a spot they reached in two of the past three seasons. Returner Tamin Lipsey is the guts of T.J. Otzelberger's offense, and Milan Momcilovic is primed for a breakout sophomore season.

Returns: Top four scorers in Lipsey, Momcilovic, Keshon Gilbert and Curtis Jones
Transfer additions: Nate Heise (Northern Iowa), Dishon Jackson (Charlotte), Brandton Chatfield (Seattle) and Joshua Jefferson (St. Mary's)
Freshmen: Four-star additions Nojus Indrusaitis (No. 67 in ESPN 100) and Dwayne Pierce

Peacock/MAX/Streaming Discounts

Now the new TV deal has been announced we will all need Peacock subscriptions starting this year, and possibly MAX subscriptions next year. I get notices of discount codes for streaming services from time to time, so I figured I would start a thread and post anything I find helpful.

From Cord Cutter Weekly:

After a brief absence, Peacock is back with another discount for new and former subscribers. Use the promo code PLANETFITNESS50 to take $30 off for one year, bringing the price to $30 with ads or $90 without. Peacock is raising prices in six days (to $80 per year with ads or $140 without), so now's the time to lock in a much lower rate through next summer.
If you're not a regular Peacock watcher but plan to stream the Olympics, you might also consider signing up now for just a month at the regular price. That'll save you a couple of bucks before those price hikes kick in on July 18.
