Interesting post on the Spurs subreddit

Basically it seems that the Spurs were trying to figure out rotations and Sandro kinda fell by the wayside, but it’s become apparent that he works really well with Wembanyama (whose rim protection helps cancel out Sandro’s weaknesses).

Obviously the Spurs are way out of the playoff picture and recent games mean nothing. But the impression seems to be of Sandro can become a below-average defender of 2-4, he is a fit.

Sandro got the start last night as Wemby rested. Spurs put up only 89 points and shot 33% as a team 🤢

26 minutes
0 Points (0-8, 0-3 3PT)
11 Rebounds
2 Assists

He's been starting recently. Last night was the only game where the blew it points wise.

Interview posted the other day mentioned connection with Wemby. Announcers noted that it seems they have a really good connection on the court and asked how. Mamu said they first connected as friends and hang out all the time. Now getting to play together and they often know what the other is thinking.

Great situation to be tight with the face of the franchise!

Yeah 0 fer re: points: 0 for 8 from the field. 0 for 3 from 3. Plus side..... led team with 11 rebounds. Nice to see him get the minutes.

Rooting for the big guy. Can't hurt that he and Wemby are friends.

Down 17 in the 4th quarter Sandro helps lead a comeback for a one point win against Denver. Big night for Sandro with 21 points and 12 rebounds going 3-5 from three. Nice to see him taking advantage of playing time.

Also, a good game by Jared Rhoden tonight. Late in that game Rhoden has 11 points, 4 reb, 5-5 FG's in 27 minutes for the Pistons.

Plus, Oklahoma City Thunder 125 Milwaukee Bucks 107.

Mamu needs regular minutes. No reason he cant stick in the league with his size and skill set.
In one post game interview in responding to a question about his style of play he said the experience he gained playing in Europe means always moving and just-not standing around and the more minutes he gets the better chance to become more comfortable with the way the NBA game is played today.

Mamu has been a nice complement to Wemby because they play well together and help make up for each other's shortcomings.

Sandro still has the same 2 issues. If he could improve one of them, his stock would take a jump. First is 3-pt consistency. He's 27% this year and 30% last year. He needs to be close to league average which is 36.6%.

Offensively, he contributes even not shooting the 3 well. He's a very good ball handler, has court vision and is a good and willing passer. He moves without the ball and understands how to set up teammates. He attacks the offensive glass and is a decent screener.

His biggest shortcoming is man defense. He's a tweener. Not big or strong enough to handle true bigs and not quick enough to guard wings consistently.

Playing with Wemby helps because he's an elite shotblocker who can help defend. And Sandro is a good rebounder who can take some of that responsibility off Vik. Will be interesting to see if SA puts them in their plans for next year.

He's a hard worker, so hopefully it will happen. I think the three point shooting is easier to overcome with consistent minutes. I believe he shot the three well when he had runs in the g league last year. It's only been a couple weeks now that he's getting to play real minutes in a regular basis for the Spurs.

No idea his prospects on the defensive front. My only exposure to his game is watching highlight clips and reading box scores

Cool Jared is getting NBA playing time, too. Proud of those guys

funny enough, hes the exact type of player wemby struggles with defensively, the tweeter. wondering if it's an added bonus to have mamu in practice with him

Spurs host Pistons tomorrow 3:30 (ET???) ...... It would be neat to see both on the court.
This boxscore should bring a smile to Pirate fans everywhere..... Both Mamu and Jared had standout games.
