I never said the wall was the only strategy (neither did Trump for that matter), but you may recall how many didn’t want to spend a dime on them. We both know securing the border (walls, technology, agents) is necessary and can be done much more effectively than how it is know. Border security will also act as a deterrent to some illegals and cartels.

We also need a strategy for intake, asylum and dealing with a path to citizenship.

Why Congress can’t do this…we know why. But a President can articulate a high level plan that accomplishes both and lead. Biden has done neither since he’s been in office as encounters have skyrocketed.

There is a zero percent chance that republicans in the house pass any progressive policy. If Biden is the kind of President that is concerned about his legacy (which I believe he is) then in my opinion, immigration reform combined with border protection is his best political strategy with this congress for meaningful legislation.

If I were Biden, I would give republicans whatever they want on the border to get it done including a wall.

Again, everyone is focused on illegals coming through the border because that is visible. How do you stop people from overstaying their Visas which is half the illegal immigration issue??? I haven’t heard one anyone really talk about that even Republicans.

As far as the border goes, the Mexican cartels builds tunnels and goes under the border to get in. I don’t know what technology or system will stop that. Very difficult to contain. Building a wall in certain places makes sense but we need to do better than a wall. That won’t cut it.

Part of the illegal immigration is to help those countries with their own economies. Hopefully Venezuela will become free again. That country is too rich with natural resources to have this issue. Moreover, that would be a major hub of tourism if it were to open up.

Exactly. We do need to protect our border and fix immigration issues, but as long as people are desperate to come, there will be an immigration problem. No matter how many road blocks we put in the way, it would not help why people are trying to get here in the first place.

The problem is just not going to go away until the people in South American want to stay in South America.

No one is saying just a wall. Nothing is 100% foolproof, but the key is to make it as difficult as possible.

No one is also saying stop admitting people from those countries. We certainly can use the labor. We need to do it in an orderly manner so we don't overload our own system and weed out the bad actors.

We really need to get these people to learn English before they decide to come here. I think that would solve the border crisis. They could just watch our news telling us how terrible of a systemic racist country we have here and all of our other faults and while these migrants may still want to leave their country, they will likely choose a different destination once the news teaches them how terrible of a country we have here .
