Gtown did not score a point in the last 3:50 of the game last night and at the end of the 1st half we stopped them 7 straight times and did not score once . Our offense is pitiful PERIOD .

Gtown did not score a point in the last 3:50 of the game last night and at the end of the 1st half we stopped them 7 straight times and did not score once . Our offense is pitiful PERIOD .

We have not been good at all in playing straight defense, but we’ve done a great job at generating turnovers and that’s kept us alive and in position in many of these games. But then we can’t convert turnovers into offense.

And so many of those offensive rebounds last night went to waste. It’s horrible to watch, so frustrating.

I think our defense could be good if we press more. We have a lot of guys with length and speed. Middleton, in particular, was really giving GTOWN problems in the backcourt.

The percentage can be misleading.

When you force a team into 16 turnovers that’s good defense and is just as good as a miss in terms calculating percentages.

The 61 points yesterday and 66 points vs Rutgers is more reflective of a good defensive effort.

Agreed, the turnovers have kept it in check…. So has our improved FT defense in those two games (11/22 Georgetown, 13/28 Rutgers). 🤣

Conversely we shot 3/24 form 3 (12.5%)

Prior to the game we were shooting better than 33% and Georgetown’s D was yielding a % higher than that.

If, we shoot anywhere close to our average, that’s an additional 5 more makes and 15 points for us.

Bottomline it was another ugly low 60s game and we don’t have the closer to hit the big shot in the final seconds like we have had recently.

But I don’t believe the defense cost them the game yesterday.

We can’t have it both ways.

When we slow down the offenses of Hofstra, VCU, and FAU who were putting up much higher per game averages, we have to give a little credit and say the team is working hard on that part of the floor.

Yes there will be games where a Vandy / Nova gets hot and we don’t stand a chance.

But holding out opponents to 61.5 ppg (15th best in the nation) after this sample of games is still a positive stat you can try to hold onto this year.

Well, what would you propose? Run up and down the floor with offensively talented teams and get blasted? We may see this vs X in a few days. Not saying we could run effective offense while working for a late shot clock attempt. With this roster we have to play with limited possessions. Almost worked last night and vs RU, but no cigar.

The team stinks, we should play slow. This group cannot even convert defensive turnovers or offensive reobunds at an average rate, LOL.

Teams are getting all kinds of easy looks against us lately. Gotta keep the turnovers coming, we're getting carved up without them. We've also been fouling more as the quality of opponent has improved because we're out of position. We should be pressing more earlier in games... That may help the slow starts.

We play this painfully slow tempo and then have a terrible turnover problem of our own which negates the purpose of low possessions.

Gus is pesky because he plays with intensity with that wide frame and in spots it makes a difference. He also positioned well when Georgetown went to the zone. Gus was in the middle of the comeback runs against both Oklahoma State and Georgetown. Not a coincidence. Godswill also played pretty well against Georgetown.

Encouraging for both of them considering it was against Sorber.

Honestly why not try it. I could joke about all the things I read over the summer about the depth and how we should force other teams to run with us for 40 minutes and wear them down, but I won't. However in 2006 the tempo of the team changed when Gaines went down and Laing stepped in. Sometimes that change works. This tempo isn't working, what the hell do we have to lose trying something new. The best we played vs Georgetown was hectic style forcing Georgetown into turnovers. If it doesn't work we lose by 20 instead of 1, but I'm not sure how watching half court offense is going to help us win. We have good athletes who struggle with the skills of dribbling, passing, and shooting at the high D1 level. At this point, I'd rather take my chances in a track meet than a game of skilled basketball.

I agree. He certainly lacks athleticism but he compensates with energy, hustle and heart. He did a prety good job against Sorber.

We could easily be 9-4 and things wouldn't seem as dire

I have the official box score given to the media.

19 is accurate.

The official number is 19. There were 16 individual turnovers and three charged team turnovers.

If you add up the numbers in the TO column on the ESPN site, the total comes out to 16 but they included team turnovers in the actual total. CBS did not include those turnovers for some reason.
