Getting Karl Anthony Towns, losing Randall and divicenzo?

I wonder how Brunson feels about this. He turned down a massive amount of money to help the franchise only to see Leon Rose trade one of his Villanova buddies away before the four Nova Knicks got to play a game together. I would assume they ran this by him so maybe he approved it..

I hate breaking up the core, but I also think the Knicks couldn’t say “no” to getting a big time talent like KAT that fills a need and theoretically fits much better than Julius.

I think part of the reason Brunson took less $ was so they could a guy like KAT. I’m sure he doesn’t love the idea of losing DD, but remember Leon Rose is tight with Brunson and his father. So this doesn’t happen without his knowledge and blessing IMO.

I like the idea of KAT over Randle. Stretches the floor, not a ball stopper like Julius and can play the 4 (with Robinson) and the 5. Our interior presence definitely improves, IMO.
I actually dislike the fact that they parted with Donte. Knicks did well due to the cohesion of the Nova Knicks and now they need to hope the transition goes smoothly. I don't think Donte is necessarily Starks or Vinnie Johnson but his contributions need to be picked up and hopefully McBride (increased minutes) and Bridges pick up more than enough of the slack.

For Minnesota, I think they got better in depth but Randle and Gobert is definitely going to slow things down more. And with Edwards basically leading that team, it's gonna be interesting.

December can't come soon enough (1st meeting)

Not a Knick can but that team was going in the right direction. I think the Nova nucleus that brings culture and attitude is a big part of that. This is one them interesting trades that I think are based on metrics but will be defined by feel for game.

KAT is one of the best shooters in the world and he also happens to play Center, a position of need. Perfect fit, grade trade for the Knicks, head scratching move for the Wolves

Kat also has 220 large coming to him, perhaps a figure minny and the ownership scenario didnt want on books

rumor has it that divencenzo wasn't as bought in on the nova buddies thing as was made out and was looking to leave

Big fan. Knicks did not have a center after losing hartenetein in FA and Robinson to another long term injury.

I did like Randle more than most, but KAT is an equally good if not better player and fills a major positional need.

I do worry now about the size of lineup as they’ll likely be starting Brunson, KAT and essentially 3 SF’s.. they’re going to need help in the rebounding dept. can’t expect Hart to grab 12 rpg

This could be a trade that is good for both teams. You don't get a player like Towns without giving up a lot. And the Knicks did.

The key to this trade is health. If KAT stays healthy, despite losing two very good players and a protected #1 draft pick this trade will possibly put the Knicks over the top.

Their starting 5 is as good as any in the league. Depth and as noted health will be the key.

Count me as one that doesn’t like this deal. Chemistry, team flow and all-out hustle is what almost got the Knicks into the Eastern conference finals. Injuries just did them in.

While I don’t mind losing Randle here, DiVincenzo was really starting to find a home and come up with huge shots.

Towns, the self proclaimed best 3 point shooting big man, is in love with the perimeter.

Let’s see how this plays out, but I’m skeptical. Sometimes the most glittery things aren’t the best things

Once Robinson returns to be the banger they’ll be in great shape. I could see him and KAT on the floor at the same time.

As far as Divencenzo I agree he was really becoming a player and important to the team. However, He plays a role that in my opinion is the easiest to find. That of a sharpshooter. Something I imagine they can easily address at the trade deadline with players that may not be available now.

I like the move from the Knicks POV. They weren't ready to give Randle an extension coming off the injury and they had a big hole at the 5 that needed to be filled.

They have an interesting starting 5 with 3 big scorers (Brunson, KAT & Bridges) and 2 versatile defenders who can also rebound and score in OG & Hart. Losing Divencenzo hurts their depth but they like McBride and also have Landry Shamet at SG.

Julius Randle posts goodbye to New York after Knicks tenure ends with Karl-Anthony Towns trade

By Christian Arnold

Julius Randle said goodbye to New York with a simple message Sunday night.

“NEW YORK! THANK YOU,” Randle wrote in a post on Instagram, along with a photo of him playing at the Garden, just days after news broke of the blockbuster deal that is sending the forward out of town for star Karl-Anthony Towns.

Reports of the massive deal broke late Friday night, and the complicated trade involved sending Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, DaQuan Jeffries and a first-round draft pick to Minnesota for Towns.

The deal has not officially been completed as of Sunday, and ESPN reported the expectation is the trade would be completed “early this week.”

He had also been a two-time All-NBA selection as a Knick.

The Knicks star had just recently been at a groundbreaking ceremony of the Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School in the South Bronx last Wednesday, and he and his family had been in attendance at the Sept. 21 New York City FC match against Inter Miami at Yankee Stadium.

Following the news, Randle’s wife, Kendra, posted a goodbye message to her Instagram story.

“Forever grateful for this experience. New York was amazing to our family,” Kendra wrote. “[Son] Kye Kye grew up in the garden. We got here when he was 1.5 years old and this year he will be 8. So many of you embraced him/us and made this experience unforgettable and I’m forever grateful. Bittersweet moment but so excited for a new, healthy chapter for our family.”

A number of Knicks fans have also posted messages of thanks to Randle for his time with the team, which included a lengthy post on X by actor and noted Knicks fan Ben Stiller.

“Through it all his commitment to the community and the team was and is undeniable,” part of Stiller’s post read. “Grateful for his time here. He is an all star and we’re lucky to have had him. Wish him all the best in Minnesota, he is going to bring a lot of toughness and grit and dedication to that team and community.”

This is likely as much a business move as it is a talent move. According to the Spotrac, Minnesota is past the second apron of the NBA's luxury tax (around $188 million) even after this move. The Knicks are slightly under that limit but are also hard capped to it this year.

Minnesota with KAT, Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert each making over $40 million per year are likely looking to get under that second apron number. It's important because the CBA that went into effect last season makes it more difficult for teams in the luxury tax to make moves.
